one thing i know about Tulare is the wall obviously creates different racing than most of our bullring tracks; chico, ocean, kings have no wall on 1 end or the other, allowing some guys to take it in hard & slide off with no price to pay, other than tag the back. i personally feel the wall promotes cleaner, less bonzai type racing. i know you guys say its rough, choppy, wreck happy and so on, but not always fellas. first started coming to Thunderbowl in 02, been to over 150 races since, some of the best races ever have taken place there, numerous drivers call it their favorite track. so blazer, revjimk i know we go round & round about this issue, and we keep it clean & in good fun, but i'm stubborn about my fav. track. maybe someday you'll make it here, or make it again and see what all the talk is about. BTW, a buddy & I came to the midwest twice in 04 for the Spring Classic @ Knoxville April 30, May 1st, & the Red River Shootout in Fargo, June or July, both outlaw shows. got rained out friday night Knoxville, they shoved 2 shows into sat nite, walked away at 2:50 am full of methanol & dirt, totally different racing than what we were accustomed to, had a blast. Fargo was a 3 day show, sat nite main ending after 19 laps with jawbreaker sized hail. racing was loud and fast, 1st time experiencing no mufflers. came away from both events satisfied, yet could'nt wait to see some 1/4 mile action back home. I guess it's all a preference thing. have a good one guys

Absolutely preference has a lot to do with it. I grew up with the half mile tracks. Jackson, MN, Fairmont, MN, Spencer,IA (Clay County) and Knoxville. And for the most part they are smoothly prepped tracks. I didn't discover the short tracks until I started running over to Husets on Sunday nights while in high school. Once getting a taste of that I started visiting Eagle in Nebraska. I actually moved to Lincoln, NE after high school for a year and met a couple drivers running Eagle/Knoxville for the summer from the southwest. Ended up pitting for them......Edd French and Bob Adams. Had a blast! Hit some All Star shows like Topeka, also. Also hung out at Don Maxwells shop in Lincoln. Doug Wolfgang was welding and sweeping floors about that time (as he put it). Also was able to meet and spend some time with the great Jan Opperman. Sorry, I digress Smile  As I was saying, I too did get hooked on the short tracks. A lot of my race friends were not really sure about having Jackson Motoplex getting shortened up, but I assured them it was going to be for the better, and it has been. And you're right. I've never been to a race in CA that counts for nuch outside of a midget show at Ventura back in the '80's while visiting a friend. I have done PPV for over a dozen CA events and that's all I can claim for experience. And no doubt your locals are gassers for sure!

I would be glad to give Tulare another shot,  time & $$$ permitting.... or any of the other Cali tracks

I bought a plane ticket, rented a car & hotel room, for the sole purpose of seeing Trophy Cup. Same with USAC nonwingers at Perris. My only gripe with Perris was traffic getting there, & wrecks at Tulare

One of these days..... I'll be back

Actually, I got to visit friends & relatives there too.... but I wouldn't have gone if not for racing
