Actually looking at 410 trends around the country, I think it's logical that the WoO does whatever it can to attract more teams to the series. It won't be long and in several areas of the country there may not be any locals to draw into their field at all. What that means is the WoO are going to face the day when their travellers may just be the entire feild. If that does become the case, the WoO had better have a car count that will sell tickets. The All Stars will remain healthy because there are enough tracks and population within a good area to retain teams willing to travel the distances needed for the series. The All Stars may just spill into PA more often, also. The only threat maybe to PA is that only two tracks may be able to offer 410 racing in the future because of car counts. When car counts reach a certain level, a number of fans will quit coming to the track. Of course, these are just speculations, but time will tell.

I'm sure if they could afford having 30 guys follow the whole tour, they would love it. I am not saying they don't want the cars, I'm asking how many can they afford to offer the Platinum benefits to: Tow Money, point money etc., with the sponsorship and sanctioning fee model they currently have?
This is what I am saying, there may be a time in the near future, if trends keep going the way they are that someone may get their application for Platinum status rejected, because they are full up.
Of course, just a few years ago, this board was wondering if the WoO was going to survive, since they couldn't fill their calendar with dates and were having trouble keeping even 8-9 cars on the road. It seems to me that this stuff is cyclical, so who knows where it will be in 5 years.

I was thinking of all the 410's in PA that actually have car owners....here's what I came up with...
-Dale Blaney- 1Z(Zemco Racing)
-James McFadden- 3(Highlands)
Tyler Ross- 5(Lefever)
Blaine Heimbach- 12(Creasy)
Danny Dietrich- 13(Buch)
Gerard McIntyre- 07(Coldren)
Steve Buckwalter- 17B(Clair & Jan Ritter)
Brian Montieth- 21(Jerry Parrish)
Lucas Wolfe- 24(Barshinger)
Greg Hodnett- 27(Heffner)
Davey Sammons- 747(John Chemedlin)
Jared Esh- 33(Ehrenzeller)
Tyler Walker-35(Sorokach)
Adrian Shaffer- 27(Stewart Smith)
Cory Haas-39(John Trone)
Danny Dietrich-48(Gary Kauffman)
Freddie & Brandon Rahmer(Can't remember owners name)
Brock Zearfoss-58(Aaron Long)
Lance Dewease- 69K(Don Kreitz)
Glenndon Forsythe-2(Wisner)
Chase Dietz-5(Godfrey)
Eric Tomecek-1W(John Westbrook)
Kyle Reinhardt-91(Quackenbush)
Trey Starks-44(Gobrecht)
Steve Owings-35(Valentine Motorsports)
Carl Bowser-98(Chiappeli)
Jason Schultz-29(Horst)
Joe Trenca(Mucci Motorsports)
Tyler Bear-10(Mike Vanderecken)
Dave Blaney-71(Motter) He was here for 10 races or so
Also Jimmy Walker owned Chad Trout's car before he passed away this year. I"m not sure about Joe Kata, but I think his car is owned by somebody too. There's more car owners in PA than you think.
|
You hit most of them & a couple I probably missed. A few others are the Wilson #38, Earnest #35, Warko #94 & Kaylor #13K. Probably can make a case for nearly 35

Only the WoO/WRG bean counters know for sure. One of the things to consder is how much does losing 10-12 dates cost compared to carrying an extra 6-8 cars? (just an example) Or would having 6-8 more cars bring in several new venues that are starving for sprint car action? For sure a 14-15 car field won't bring in big crowds, and in areas where there are no teams, that's what they would have had in recent years. A WoO show is big dollars and that's a fact. I think the WoO could easily handle 20 teams and flourish.

In the year 2007, the WoO started the season with 26 teams. Finished with @ 23 teams. Most teams/drivers like around 10 teams- easier to make the show.

That is an interesting thought. From a non woo team who races weekly shows , maybe say in PA on 3 or 4 tracks, how many woo drivers is too many drivers? Realistically this past season if the woo were average for themselves there were only 10 to 12 spots available in the A main for locals. I know everyone had to qualify and men like the challenge. Thats why we race. But could a team member comment on how likely it might be to not show if the woo had 20 or 22 premiums every night.
Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

So, I thought I read a tweet in passing that said Blaney is out of the Zemco car. Is this true or was I just hallucinating?

The Zemco car will call Port Royal it's home for the 2018 racing season. I guess you will have to come to the opener to see who the driver is.

Or we could just check the results after the race. If you're not going to say who it is, why say anything at all?

Jeremy Elliott had an article and corresponding tweet that said Dale was looking for a ride in 2018. I didn't read the Q&A article (I don't subscribe) but the tweet said he had no fulltime ride in 2018. BigHalfMile above suggesting Zemco car will call Port home to me means he's suggesting it's Doug Esh.

Incorrect, Doug has retired from racing. They sold their motor home and bought a beach house, planning to spend most of their summer weekends at the beach.

I’ve heard a couple names rumored to be in the zemco ride in 2018. One ran very well at port last season finishing high in pointsand the other hasn’t really raced that much since his owner retired. Let’s see which one it is come opening day.

Whoever it turns out to be, good luck. The car is nothing compared to what it once was.

Mike may be a possability ,I know he used to work for them and maybe he stilll does. Heard Logan Wagner was a possability if he doesnt go All Star.
The other name being thrown around is Danny Holtgraver since Port is one of his favorite tracks and he has the family car for Lernerville and other shows.

Whomever Zemco picks, it will have to be a driver who is agreeable to running a partial season schedule which could eliminate a few drivers.....that being said, Logan Wagner would be a great fit. He had a pretty good season last year with limited funding.

Holtgraver is not going to get that seat. Or if he would it sure would not be for long. Tears up way to much equipment. That all-star ride he had is a good ride. He just couldn't get it done and was hard on the team.
