4 complete racesaver sprints huh. So your talking 15,000 each. New or Used ? The 1 and the only 1 thing all this crate and racesaver garbage saves you money is that you can run the motors for a long time with minimal maintenance. Every other part on that car cost the same be it a 410 or a 305. These guys race for peanuts, unless you are winning you'd be lucky to break even. God forbid if you wad one up. And, I will correct myself, tire wear is less, and you don't need a stupid arsh shock package. You pay the same coming in that pit gate as every other racer and crew member. So i will put this out there, if at your local track let's say 18 cars show up. Why are the payouts peanuts ? Any promotor across the land loves these classes, bring your family in the stands and your 4 or 5 buddies in the pits. Ridiculous. O and don't forget the j-off that if it's a series race that they get there cut to. A lot more than the racer gets.



They race for $300 to win and $150 to start. I believe 358 Sprints in this area pay roughly $1000 to win, and $150 to start. Since 305s are obviously below 358s then they would get less pay to start along with to win, instead of taking away the start money they cut the win money way back which means that everyone is getting a decent check at the end of the night rather than paying $600 to win and $75-$80 to start like other similar level divisions such as Crate Late Models. It also serves a purpose of keeping the big dollar teams away (I've litterally never seen in this area a driver who runs 360s or 410s running a 305 race). They could pay a little bit more, maybe $400 to win and $200 to start would be much better IMO, but it is petty much in line with what I think is ideal.

And what led to the creation of the other sprint car divisions? Costs! Did it work? In my opinion, no. The costs kept escalating in the top division (410's), and costs soon began to soar out of sight in the lesser division (360's/358's). So, what happened? Another lesser division (305's) to keep entry level costs down and participation up. And now, the costs are escalating in that division also. So guess what??!!  Another entry level division......Racesaver 305's. Not all of the country is affected by this cost problem at the same time, but it is creeping like a vine on a wall. Sad part is, I don't think the two big dogs, the WoO and the All Stars really give a shit. As weekly races diminish around the country, the more the doors open for the specialty shows. It's the same business model everywhere. Corporate farming has squeezed out the family farmer in many instances. The big retail chains have squeezed out the family store. Well, it won't be in my lifetime, but the WoO/WRG had better wake up. As the weekly racing diminishes, so will the crowds. As current race fans begin to fill the racing entertainment void with other forms of entertainment, it will get harder and harder to attract a new younger crowd to the races.

The thought of having drivers like the Madsen's, McCarl, Brown, Lasoski, Dollansky and others like them in your backyard is great. Except as a group they are no longer weekly racers at any facility.  Any time a special event pops up close to home, off they go. And even to some events not so close. Or they have a sponsor that can dictate when and where they race. I know what the WoO paid some of our lesser teams to run a few of there shows when they were within 5-6 hours, too.  They'd have been fools not to go. But, our local car count sure suffered because of it. Instead of 24-25 cars.....it was 18-19. That hurts. Sprint car fans soon grow tired of two heats and a small feature count. I relly hope the trend will reverse, but I'm not sure that it will. Now, we are in jeopardy of losing quality drivers full time to the travellling series.

I don't know what points pay in the mid west. In PA, they pay really well, and if you start out the season strong nobody is traveling to a race. Most times, it is a losing deal anyhow, especially if it is a 2 day show. You run the grove friday, and say lincoln saturday, you can come home with money in your pocket and points.

Here in PA we do have a little bit of an issue with different divisions. I understand and fully support the progression system for Sprints, but in Central PA it is pretty rough. We have: 410 Sprints, 360 Sprints, 358 Sprints, 305 Sprints and Super Sportsman (both winged and wingless), and Midgets which are all pulling from essentially the same group of drivers. In addition there will now be a 360 Wingless series as well in this area starting next season, along with the threat of the RUSH Sprints moving in as well in the next few years. If we had just 410s and 305s only I think our car counts would become quite a bit healthier, but I do think the 358/360 class serves a very important purpose in Central PA and I enjoy seeing them. I could probably do without the Wingless stuff, and the Super Sportsman though but thats just me! I know they are both pretty popular.



I could do without 305's but they do serve a purpose since unfortunately the costs of running a 360 or 358 has become too much for a lot of teams. That 430 chevy engine(ZL1?) developed by Schatz and Shaver a few years back was the best idea for a cost effective sprint class that still had plenty of power. Unfortunately it never got off the ground.

A team wouldn't travel full time with the WoO unless they were contracted and received the goodies that go along with being contracted, but don't think the WoO would want the expense that go along with having 20 contracted teams or would they? I think 16 has been the most thus far.   They can always get locals to fill the event, either voluntarily or throwing a few bucks at teams as an incentive to come race with them and fill the event. 

Is it true that both of Bobby Allen's team cars each get tow money for each event even though in the same hauler?   



As long as both cars are on the track every night, they definitely both deserve their contract/tow money.
