This is just the way it goes in dirt track racing. I have probably seen every weather scenario play out at Eldora, from races ending at 6 AM to getting postponed to Sunday. There is always a possibility weather will be a factor, I go no matter what and see what happens.

Business decision.  We were in the pits.  We go general admission the next three or four races and moneywise we're even and smiling.

Potential solution for WoO to consider... give free viewing to the September 28th show (the entire night not just the first A feature) via DirtVision.  Don't know if there is a way to verify people with ticket stubs via some sort of ticket number verification and only give them free access, but if not just air the entire night for free for everyone as a PR move.

Some who can't make it back might say its not the same as seeing the feature live (and its not)... but the trade off is getting to watch the entire night's races on the 28th for free.

On another note... I had to fly back to Florida Sunday when Nationals were delayed due to rain.  Honestly after a brief Saturday afternoon shower the rest of the night was gorgeous.  Cost me $200 in tickets I couldn't use and didn't get to see Kraig Kinser win it Sunday.  I sure would have loved for them to try like crazy to get the track ready Saturday night, but certainly wasn't a wasted trip and certainly don't blame Knoxville for mother nature or their decision.  That's what happens when you race on dirt.

Jamie,

I think the differnce is it's stated on the tickets for Nationals that "All shows will be run" and Sunday races have happened in the past (1980, 1997 are a couple others that come to mind).

I think with this situation it's the perception of the fans that the WoO and WG management made no effort to speed up the show knowing that rain was on the way (pretty much from the beginning of the night according to many posters).

I have gotten to the point where I won't go to a WoO show period anymore due to the lack of "on-track" activity through the night.  (and somehow they take longer with less cars than a weekly show that starts at the same time)

A support class is there to fill in dead time, there is no reason to have an 8 minute break between hot laps and time trials (that's what that little horn you hear in the pits means when the last TT group heads to the pits).

The WoO should hot lap first, have the support class hotlap and then go straight into WoO time trials.  Heats for support class should happen as soon as time trials are complete (as well as invocation and national anthem), then WoO heats immediately following the last support class heat (not 8 minutes after the last support class heat).  If the support Class has a B-main, have it ready when the WoO heats end, have the dash following that, then the last chance showdown, then the support class feature and the WoO feature.  This falls squarely on the track and WoO officials.  If they have any downtime other than for a crash, then they need to do some looking at their race procedures.

Fans have short attention spans.  Having dead time for no reason is dumb and arrogant on the WoO part IMO.  Yes, you are the main attraction, but you aren't everything.  Even going to a movie means something on the screen from the time you walk in the door until the time you leave (ads, trivia, previews, and the movie), they have ZERO blank space on that screen because they know when it's blank people start looking at their watches and thinking of other things they could do with their time.

Johnny, I appreciate you taking the time to explain where the WoO and Williams Grove were coming from. You don't have to do that but you took the time to anyway and that's pretty cool. I do understand your point and I realize it isn't all about how I feel. There are a lot of moving parts and I understand that. But still, it really sucks as a fan to see a premier race rained out with so little rain that the camping area had zero mud. I personally feel that if the crowd were bigger, it would've been a completely different outcome because I've been going to races my whole life and I've seen this play out many times. It isn't right but that's the way it's always been. Looking forward to catching my next WoO show. In my opinion, they still have the best thing going. I personally love their shows even if I don't always agree with the decisions they make such as in this case. Scheduling was obviously an issue so hopefully that can be resolved in the future.

I just wanted to clear up a few things from my perspective--I don't want to enter the debate as to whether the "complete show/double features next time" policy is good or bad; it's just the current policy in place.  I believe the series did everything possible to rush the show as quickly as possible from the scheduled starting time. (Notice we didn't do the dash inversion draw or the fan challenge.)  I CAN say, howver, that the sheduling issue will be addressed when it comes time to set 2018 dates.

Could be wrong but I think DirtVision is allowing folks who paid for last Saturday's show online  to view the makeup feature.

That would have been the best solution in my book. Take your rain check from Saturday, use it to get in on Thurs 9/28, run the make up show, kick everyone out and admit those who bought a Thursday ticket for the rest of the program. They did this in 2005 when a similar situation happened. Granted I know that was the next day, and it was a bit of a mess getting people in and out, but was the fairest outcome. I know that doesnt help those who can't make it back, but at least it is a fair outcome for the majority of fans.

Good to hear the scheduling issue is being taken care of. I actually thought all in all, a great job was done pushing the show through. My only issue was cancelling when it was pretty obvious the race could've still been done and over at a reasonable hour. But with the scheduling issue, I can also see where you guys were coming from. Once again, thanks for coming on here and explaining what took place. I'm already excited for the WoO to swing back through Pa later in the season.
