Larson, TK can still get it done.

We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

This post brings up an interesting talking point that I have been thinking about for some time and that is the number of former World of Outlaws drivers racing locally.  It seems that the WoO has been goiing through a NASCAR type youth movement.  I don't think the veterans have for gotten how to get it done but says as much about losing their rides with big budget teams.  They fall back to running locally and have a tough choice between lesser rises or not racing.  They take a low budget deal and don't run up front and get a bad rap that snowballs into a downward spiral.  Thoughts?

It strikes me as very similar to stick & ball teams "rebuilding"... they trade away a bunch of proven veterans for rookies with potential (& to save $$$)

With the old pros, you know what you're getting. They're competent, solid drivers, but not good enough to beat Schatz. With the young guys, the sky is the limit. Just look at Gravel, & of course, Larson. I saw Gravel at my very first sprint car race, at little Clinton County Speedway, either Patriots or Empire Super sprints.  was surprised that my old stompng grounds of Watertown, Ct. even produced a sprint driver, with zero dirt tracks left in the state. Look at him now.... who woulda thunk it???

I'm usually a pretty rational person when it comes to these threads as you can guess by my post count. I'm not saying that you're all wrong, but let's think logically. There are only a handful of drivers that tour the country without club affiliation. By the way, I'm from Posseland so don't think we're all the same over here. Danny Dietrich doesn't race well outside of Central PA. Bill Balog doesn't do well outside of IRA and select TT events. All other drivers that have been mentioned are just hometown love affairs. We all love our hometown guys whether they do well home or away, but chances are that we're left disappointed afterwards.

Brian Brown, Kerry Madsen, Ian Madsen, Tim Kaeding, Christopher Bell, Rico Abreu, Kyle Larson

Those would be my picks based on the races they choose, their performance at the end of the day, and their geographical selections.

This is probably the most spot on post I've ever read on here.    I'm from Pennsylvania and love our local dirt track racing too, but our guys suck outside of PA.      I take notice to a lot of racing from all over the country as much as I can.    Besides Larson, Rico and Christopher Bell obviously, the top non-Outlaw driver this year has to be Kerry Madsen.   Two up and comers I've really been paying attention too are Carson Macedo.....and the other is Spencer Bayston who I'm surprised nobody has mentioned yet on here.

Also, I'm excited to see how Gio Scelzi's career continues to grow, even Kyle Larson said he was definitely the guy to keep your eye on the next couple years.

His lack of mentioning is probably because most people don't know that he drives something other than a Keith Kunz midget. He hasn't really hit the national scene a whole lot as of yet, but once he does, I expect his to be Madsen/Kaeding-esque in the fact that he'll be good anywhere as long as there is strong financial backing.

I'd have to throw Dylan Westbrooks name into the mix at this point. He's 18 years old. He was a 360 rookie last year coming from micro sprints. He didn't win his 1st feature until last July. Since last July 1st he's won over 20 360 races in the Northeast in basically ever sanctioning body (SOS, ESS, Patriot Series, Ohsweken Fri Night Sanctioning) at several different tracks. Last night was his forst ever night in a 410 and he cane from 17th to 5th in the WoO A Main at Ohsweken on an ultra slick track. He passed Pittman Stewart and Sweet like they were standing still. He's definitely by far the best natural talent that I've ever seen in this area.

I mean, last night was really impressive, but let's keep some perspective here.

Fair piint. Certainly not THE best non outlaw driver right now but I would still put him on the list. Gio Scelzi has been mentioned several times here and he has what, 2 or 3 wins?

I don't think Gio should be mentioned yet either - he's got a lot to prove. But yes, three 410 wins and a 360 win in a tougher region than the Northeast, plus being finishing in top five or just outside in damn near every race he's ran this year is more impressive than what Westbrook's done.

Also, I hate to knock him for it, but Oshweken can't be the best gauge of competitiveness. It carries a similar feel to William's Grove in that it's very unique compared to what the Outlaws usually see, thus giving advantage to local guys with a lot more laps on it.

Dylan's not in the conversation for "Best Non WoO Driver" yet, but he is absolutely, 100% an "up and comer" to keep an eye on, there is no doubt about that.  Dude is money.  Real good driver to keep an eye on.  Ryan should know, he gets to see him (and race him ?) more than any of us.  Definitely keep his name on your mind over the next few years.  Just because he's in the NE / Canada doesn't mean he can't create some buzz.

What's unique about Oshweken's layout? Other than the ice rink surface, the configuration looked similar to many other tracks across the US!

Sorry, wasn't clear and guess I can see where you'd think I was inferring layout by comparing to Grove - I was talking the surface. It has to be one of, if not the slickest tracks the WoO run all year.

It's definitely slick!!! I honestly think that 400hp could have won that race on Tuesday night.

We don't really have any 410 racing in the Northeast but I wouldn't say that California 360 racing is tougher than the Northeast. I'd say that the 360 racing in the Northeast, especially the ESS tour, is as tough as any 360 racing in the country. Obviously it's really tough to compare but for exampl, Jason Barney is a regular top 5 competitor in the ESS and he usually finishes in the top 5 whenever he runs with the ASCS National tour.
