Both kinds of Sprinters will get you a second on your house and or divorced.  countless hours at the shop with little sleep.  Long tows just to turn around to be home by dawn.  Lots of fast food, mostly from the 99cent menu, and more time spent on the car than you spend with your kids.  I am fan first of course, but the sacrifice that is made just to get to the track and  participate in putting on a show is more than most race fans will be able to understand.  Do I expect fans to understand?  No not really.  Racers choose to do what they do so no one should ask for any sympathy, but appreciation for sprint car racing in general regardless of type is important I think.  Car counts, wing vs. non wing, promotors doing this or taht, track operators not running shows the way you want, prices of tickets or beers or parking, etc...  all that is fodder for a message board I guess.

I sincerly hope we reserve a moment to think about the guy working two jobs to make ends meet only to show up to the track with average equipment to race his ass off for no money or glory; because wing or no wing it's these guys that fill out the line up card to make it all work.  I prefer tradtional sprint car racing because I think it's more exciting, but passion and respect for the guys in the pits making it happen on any given night runs deep for our crowd.  cheers.  Enjoy the races this weekend

Once castor oil and methanol gets into yor bloodstream, it's very hard to quit. My friends Walter Hauser comes to mind and Mel Beauchamp.

really appreciate your post Duckslayer...you're so very right...always have had the same opinions...I believe most fans have no clue of the "sacrifices" as well...but the adrenaline rush of the participation and satisfaction of running well is the payback...most fans wives and kids don't always realize that in my opinion as well...but when you're knee deep in racing... on the surface nothing else matters...

I've probably seen more Civil War races than anything else over the past 11 years or so and they are very exciting, competitive events. I've also seen many VRA, CRA and KWS events and enjoyed all of them. Each is series is somewhat unique and I would have a difficult time picking a favorite. I don't know what it's like from a driver standpoint but from a spectator standpoint I really like the Trophy Cup format and the fact that it is a large, stacked field of competitors makes it a terrific event. Plus the Thunderbowl is one of my favorite tracks. Also really like Ventura and the PAS. Californians are lucky to have so many good tracks and sprint racing series to choose from. I think it's really interesting that some drivers are able to be ultra competitive in both winged and wingless racing. Brent Kaeding and his son Bud immediately come to mind but there are plenty of others including Kyle Larson and Rico Abreu. If I remember correctly Damien G. did a lot of winged racing before he moved into CRA. At the recent KWS show in Ventura I believe the quick qualifier, Carson Macedo, timed in at 11.570.  If the information I've found is correct this means that the official track record at Ventura, set in 1994, still belongs to Ron Shuman at 11.527.  The Flyin' Shoe was flying, without wings. Apparently the wings aren't a big advantage on a smaller track like Ventura. Hmm, a winged vs. wingless sprint car event?  Some people might consider it sacrilege but I have to believe it would be incredibly entertaining. I'm not trying to stir up trouble, just offering observations and encouraging everyone to support sprint car racing.

At Hanford and Tulare, wing 360's quaify 2 seconds faster than n/w 360's.
