Yeah, the "competition yellow" is almost as bad as the "red flag for fuel". They both should be outlawed in motorsports.

Sean,

Tucson

BINGO! Oh, and get rid of the "lucky dog" BS too!

In total agreement with Hawker on the lucky dog--worst rule in all of sports.  And no-they don't need to race back to the yellow to get a lap back--field frozen at the yellow--if you got your lap back already fine--if not, tough $hit.

I do not agree with the two of you on the competition yellow--I think a yellow is a good idea for the uncertainty and for safety.

As for the red flag fuel stop--I don't want sprint car racing turning into an enduro where on a caution filled race we could see cars running out of fuel and the last car standing wins.  That would be stupid.  If you are simply referring to the 50 laps at K-ville, then you have a different arguement.  But, throwing a red flag for fuel when you realize the race has run a lot more laps than ever anticipated, is the only smart decision.  Besides, I probably need to get rid of some beer anyways by that point!

Without the lucky dog people would then bitch that a lapped car was racing the leaders too hard (sounds familiar from this very board).

Funny how the NASCAR bashers come on here and spew the venom, but they want the lapped cars to the rear (just like NASCAR); double file restarts (just like NASCAR); Group qualifying (just like NASCAR); Next people will be wanting a chase like format for the WoO Championship.

Also I love it when the tinfoil hat people come out of the woodwork and say so and so got the pole because NASCAR wanted it, so and so won because NASCAR wanted it, there was a caution for debris so so and so could get back on the lead lap or was about to be lapped and so on and so on.  There is none of that crap and there are no UFOs or Bigfoot and the US Govt did not bring down the twin towers you douchebags.

Bigfoot isn't real? Next you're going to tell us Santa Claus doesn't exist!!  Just kidding with ya Duke.

I agree with your point about how everyone who hates NASCAR wants the same system for their racing - good analogy.

However, I do not agree that NASCAR is above a little "wink, wink" to ensure something does or does not happen at a certain time.  From what I remember through the years, most of the shenanigans seem to take place on the restrictor plate tracks (which I love, BTW).  Seems pretty easy to me to slip someone a slightly larger restrictor plate - say, oh, the #3 at Daytona this year upon it's return to Cup, for qualifying anyway.  Just sayin', that's all.

One final question to everyone: I thought the new format was win any race and your in the Chase?  Doesn't sound like that is exactly right?

I hear what you are saying Larsonfan, but I can not see it feasable that someone could be given that bigger restrictor plate and it not get out from someone on the team.  People jump from team to team way too often for something like that not to get out.  The whispers have been there forever (especially at restrictor plate tracks) with Petty's 200th with the President there at Daytona, Earnhardt's win at Daytona finally, Dale Jr winning the July race at Daytona after Sr's death, Mikey winning the 500 the year after Dale's death and now the 3 car winning the pole in it's return.  I just can't see that secret deal staying secret, it's not like they would give it to Childress or Dillon and they would install it without anyone else on the team knowing.  It would surely get out and the sport would suffer immeasurably.  Just my opinion.

I agree with you on almost everything.  The only way any type of sporting event can be fixed anymore is when only  2 people are involved--and they keep their mouth's shut.  And they most likely will get caught when one doesn't keep their mouth shut.  Can you imagine the ramifications if a large scale fix was uncovered in any major sport?  Can you imagine how much more empty the seats would be if it actually were proven that Dale Jr's win was setup?   I can't see any major sport even trying this anymore.  The Black Sox from 1919 got caught and they weren't on Facebook, Tweeting or opening their mouths with a cell phone around.  Pete Rose and Tim Donaghy (NBA ref) were caught betting on or fixing games but this was a small scale operation--Rose's only involving himself.  A fix the scale that everyone seems to think can happen is not even possible.  No different than the old saying  "well it has to go to 7 games so they get their money!"--can't happen on a big scale--no matter how many want to think it's possible.

The chase is stupid..... And if you want to stop the lapped cars from "racing the leaders (which is also stupid to expect them NOT to...it IS a race after all), then only give points to the top 25 or so. NAPCAR has to have all of these rules so they don't have the winner lapping up to 5th place or so like it was when the fastest car/driver kicked your ass. It is manufactured "excitement" from top to bottom.

I don't want the lapped cars to not race with the leaders to get their lap back, but looked how Sammy got crucified on this very board for doing just that, that was my point.

Not by me.....It's a race....Race to the checkers! Which reminds me of another pet peeve....."He was faster, so I let him go"....Try that crap in F1 and you'll be looking for another ride.

Hell they haven't found Hoffa yet. How many were involved in that. That is a code of honor, the other a singing of confidentiality. Isn't that the way it is supposed to work anyways.

Unless it your team mate, then you will be looking for another ride if you DON'T let him pass.

And that is the difference that most Americans can't comprehend.....Team sport with cars owned by constructors like Ferrari, Mercedes, McLaren and a Constructors Championship that is WAY more important than the Drivers Championship (Just ask Alain Prost).
