I would fly into St Louis on August 3, go to a Pevely For the double Ironman 55 shows, and then drive or fly up to Des Moines (around a 5 hr drive) and spend the week in Iowa for the Knoxville Nationals.

thats my favorite week of the year by far. You could also just fly into Iowa and enjoy the 360 Nationals the weekend before the 410 Nationals.

A lot of people like the Kings Royal week, which starts at Attica for the Doty and ends with 3 days of the Kings Royal. Or you can come for the Kings Royal and drive east to Lernerville for the Silver Cup and even more east for the Outlaws at Williams Grove.

PA speedweek was a lot of fun last year with Larson joining the festivities early in the week. To me, it’s a limited field and tracks I’m very familiar with, but if you like the posse, that’s a good ticket.

ditto on all of the above.  Lima land, eldora and the like.  I camped at a Ohio state park, a beautiful spot, between these two tracks and loved the park, the people and the racing.

jusr in case and for future reference here is the Ohio State Park website...  www.ohiostateparks.org

I plan on doing the whole possee tour sometime very soon and doing all the BERG tracks...enjoy your trip wherever you end up...

Ascot was the greatest of all time..

West Capital wasn't half bad either..

Life is good...

Those are all great suggestions, but he asked about EAST Coast!

That sounds awesome. I dont have advice for Kings Royal but if you need advice for Don Martin let me know. Email me a couple weeks before Don Martin and I can see if I have any extra tix (no guantees) or at least let you know if/where we'll have food in pits. Thanks!

Was wondering about Lernerville. My brother hits Dog Hollow and Marion Center (push truck there) every week. Don't think he gets to Lernerville more than once a year so I doubt he would be much help there. He's into the super lates. I do 410 sprints.

We'll be looking for at least three tickets for the Don Martin, maybe four if my other brother wants to tag along too.

Worth it or necessary to buy them way ahead of time? Really prefer not to be crammed in bleachers if at all possible.

EDIT: I don't know these tracks. Was there when I was about 9 years old. Have lived in Washington state ever since. This trip should be a huge memory lane event for me.

I remember watching Blackie Watt, Ben Buzzard, and Red Neil in the late 70s. Dang. I'm getting old.

A lot of people do the lawn chairs, just bring goggles as the dust could be brutal. I’d also buy a pit pass when you get there, I don’t think it’s too much in addition to your ticket.

Sweet. Will be in the same area. We're 2nd row that night somewhere around 18-21. Sounds like good occasion to meet some sprint car enthusiasts and drink some beer.

Yea, my one trip to Eldora (4 Crown, 2 yrs. ago), I bought good seats, but after walking around, realized that lawn chairs had as good a view & were more comfortable, more space

Blackie Watt! He was still racing big block modifieds when i went as a kid in the 80s. Always remember that name, haha.

You could get tix day of for Don Martin but you'd be at the mercy of Gen Admission seats. It sells out. WoO usually every year has a buy tix online early get free pit pass upgrade deal. You can do this up until like a couple days before event. Email me three weeks out and i can check my tix situation. If i cant hook you up buy RESERVED Seats ahead of time and get the free pit pass upgrade. It depends where you like to sit, but i alwasy prefer between the flag stand and turn four where lots of action typically happens. Our Box is #26 if you look at a seating chart so you have an idea where im talking about. Id say Reserved anywhere between our box and flag stand. Go early, tailgate, go in pits. I usually watch tt from pit stands and walk around pits between that and heats. Lernerville has good track food as well. We usuallly bring food for pre race meal in pits at the hauler of team we sponsor.

Bought Kings Royal tickets quite a while ago. Purchased tickets today for the Don Martin. Will pick them up at Will Call. Didn't see anything about the upgrade. No problem.

Been checking weather for more than week now. Looking like we're going to be okay. Possible scattered thunderstroms. We'll see.

Likely hit football HOF in Canton on Sunday after Kings Royal.

Super excited! Wondering what sort of merch I will walk away with. Probably a tshirt or two. Not a big fan of the giant cartoon sprint car on the shirt. Would like something understated, perhaps with a smaller logo on left chest. We'll see.

Eldora will run at 2am if need be, so they’ll do what they can to run all the shows.

Pro Football Hall of Fame is pretty awesome too.

Last year we went to.....

Friday, USAC Sprint week at bloomington

Saturday, Kings Royal WOO

Sunday, Mansfield ( tripple crown race)

Monday, Pirates game

Tuesday, learnerville (Don Martin WOO)

Wednesday. NASCAR Trucks at Eldora.

I think that is a good time to go because you can hit some much, and get a good varitey. The year before that we hit up Kokomo. Asphalt Indy for the Volger, Lincoln Park, and also went to Twin cities in St. Louis.

All these sound good.  Im in TN now, moved here from Oregon.  Weve been going out and taking in different tracks in the Midwest(and close to us) area.  Knoxville and Haubstadt have been my favorites so far.  Seen wingless and winged at Haubstadt...great show.  Knoxville is bad fast.  Great facilities(both places).  We are planning a trip to PA next summer(speedweek maybe).

You ever been to Cottage Grove speedway in Oregon.  Man the outlaws put on some shows there.  Good times

Cottage Grove is a cool track. Too bad they don’t run there anymore.

Been to all the great tracks around the country and nothing compares to Knoxville. Not only great racing but the people, track and everything else is just about racing. People go to Knoxville for the racing, not to get drunk.

I go for both.  Hahaha.

Well gents.... road trip complete. Thanks for the advice and tips. Good times were had. No, that's not right. GREAT times were had. Please feel free to shoot me any specific questions.

This will be long for my own benefit. I have to write to document. That's just me being me for me. Will likely break this up in to a post per day.

Thursday July 12: Left Seattle at 12:45 am. Hard time sleeping on plane. Too excited. Into Ohare and then Cincinnati around 9:00am. Buddy picked me up and we drove north. Stayed in a hotel in Sidney. Got to Eldora around 2:30. Parked for $5 in one of the lots where it was super easy to get out. Buddy rented a new Challenger. Super throaty powerful muscle car. Needless to say he was in the racing spirit.

Updagraded seats into pit passes and started to wander. Walked all the merch trailers then onto the pits. Was completely wide eyed the whole time. What an awesome experience. The entire faciltiy was amazing. No comparison to the tracks I've experienced my whole life (mostly Skagit, Marion Center, Bedford, and Lernerville). Got some great advice from guy manning the booth at top of stairs just before pits. I asked him for general advice. What should we make sure not to miss? He told us to be on the turn 3 and 4 fence line inside during hot laps. OMG. Was he ever right? That was super cool. What an experience. The raw power and speed is so different from that vantage point. Can't tell you how much it hurt my ears. Made sure we had ear plugs the next two nights. The vibrations from the 900hp deep in your body core. Wow. Just wow. Before that we got to stand around in the pits while they were putting heat in the engines. I was standing just behind Eliason when he went to shut it down. Of course he had to give it the giant rev to clean it out. Scared the crap out of me.

Went to our seats in NTB to watch qualifiying. Terrace seating between turn 3 and 4 where you bring your own lawn chair. Huge advantage all weekend for guys that qualified first. Track would slow down quickly as it lost its moisture, but it was sunny and like 90 degrees. Not much you can do with that. Overall I applaud the track prep. They put in a lot of work to prep it as best they could given the heat. I think 46 cars for Joker's Wild. Fastest car of the night (and entire weekend) looked like Tim Shaffer. He didn't win, but in qualifiying and heats he was super fast. He would easily be on the podium a lot if he was traveling full time with the Outlaws.

The finish that night was disappointing. Shane Stewart immediately apologizing to David Gravel when they stuck the mic in his face. "I don't like to win that way". After the feature we hit the pits again. I'm a quiet guy and never want to impose on anyone. Fortuneatly for me my Buddy (Tony) is more aggressive and outgoing. He walks up to Pittman and says, "My buddy over here is a big fan. Can I get a pic of you two together." Pittman had a bad night and I would never want to impose in that situation. Of course Pittman put on a big smile and posed for a pic. Had a memorable conversation with his wife Mandy in their merch trailer the next day. ALL the drivers were super accomodating and friendly. Actually, the best and most interesting conversations I had were with crew and family members. I hate the idea of bothering folks while they're at work, but everyone seemed really into sharing and chatting when they had time. Everyone liked answering questions about all sorts of topics from the brake systems to the wing hydrolic systems. Super educational for a fan.

The food at the track was fine and super duper cheap compared to what I generally experience. $2 beers? And 12 for $20? Dang. Getting the "Eldora cooler" for $8 was well worth it. Handy carrying case would hold 12 beers and they shoveled in ice. Learned the first night quickly why we saw coozies with flaps over the top. Eldora was easily the dustiest track I've ever expereienced. Not a bad thing. Just needed to be prepared with proper eye cover and way to keep your beer top clean. Lessons learned and taken advantage of the next two nights.

Scoped out lots of shirts and hats. Bought an Eldora golf shirt with left chest logo the first night and shoped for ideas for some friends. Not a big fan of the large cartoonish tshirts with a giant car. I like things a bit more subtle and understated.

Will get to Knight Before either later today or tomorrow...
