My funny work story involves how I stuck one to the biggest asshole in the shop. I work in the forging industry and about 10 years ago, they hired a guy who was actually a pretty good forger, but a backstabbing asshole at the same time. He was always pranking other guys. Putting grease in their gloves and things like that but would act like a total diva if someone gave it back to him. Well, in walks another new hire who was basically the same type of person. I always hated the dude but he never involved me in any of his mischief because I told him point blank one day, that if he ever touched any of my stuff, I'd break his damn neck. Anyway, him and the new hire got into a prank war that ultimately ended up with him crossing the wires on the kids car and causing him considerable issues. I don't remember what he did, but I do remember the kid had to take it to a garage and it cost him some money. Either way, after all this went down, I siliconed his locker shut with all his clothes, keys and other stuff in it. I absolutely plastered it inside and out. He had a hell of a time getting into it and needless to say, was stuck at work on a Friday for quite awhile after his shift was over. That was the end of his bullshit from that day forward and the best part was, he blamed it on the other kid. He never knew I was the one who did it and neither did anyone else in the shop except for one of my close friends.

We used to send guys after pipe stretchers and left handed pipe wrenches. The shit they came back from the trailer with was pretty entertaining.

Sending people for aluminum magnets was always fun.
Sending people to get the neon tubes filled back up after they broke.
Sending people to the basement that didn't exist.
Pallet strechers.

My brother was an aircraft engineer with McDonnell Aircraft,/McDonnell-Douglas/Boeing for many years. He said every time that they had a new clerical employee they would send them to the map room for a full-scale map of the world. They usually came back and said, "They do not have a full-scale, would a quarter-scale map be okay?"

One of the other topics involved some fun being poked at someone calling a flat-head screwdriver a standard screw driver. (I think they know what they meant--just said it wrong) Made me think of metric hammers, board stretchers, the wood welder, etc. etc.
Got me thinking about the pranks we used to pull at one of my old jobs--You know, where you send someone all over the facility looking for fictitous tools? Anyone have any good stories out there?
I'll give mine--which usually makes me piss myself about every time I think about it:
I worked at Woodward Governor Company in the early 90's which made aircraft fuel controls for GE and the military. We sent someone (an intern) all over the building, dept. to dept. looking for a set of fallopian tubes!! We called every single dept. ahead of time and had him go through the entire building making a fool of himself.

Worked at a place that made bed mats back in the 80's. A rubber stretcher was a big thing.
We did 8 bed mats in a press that had 6 rather large cylinders & about 20 4 inch nuts on the bolts per cylinder, well one night they started breaking off on one of the cylinders & the boss came out & said something to which my friend told him that he'd start popping his nuts too if he went up & down as much as the press did.
Made a mirror that looked like a window that the wife made curtains for & I made a matching shelf. A girl I worked with on the floor wanted 1 so I made it & when she brought me the money a couple of days later a new temp fella was setting across from me before our shift. As she laid the money down she was saying ohhhhhhhh John you were so good last night. I look at the guy across from me & his eyes were so big. A tad later the new boss wanted to show me what I was supposed to do as if I didn't know. Heading back up front the temp fella was at his work station, the boss was walking a few steps in front of me with a limp of sorts & as I went by the temp guy I said he owes me 35 bucks too. He laughed everytime he seen me after that.

Over 20 years in aviation I too have sent more than one greenhorn looking for the 5 gallons of prop wash and the 20' of flightline, but the best by far is telling the greenhorn to climb up on the wing of a bizjet to investigate a discrepancy for a crack in the #3 cabin window. When he gets up there and shines his flashlight at the window to look at it, there's another mechanic's ass cheeks pressed up against the window...lol!
