Should society condone a sport where guys strap themselves into 900 HP cars and fly around 1/2 mile dirt tracks at 140+ MPH? We all know at least five or six sprint car drivers have died in the last three or four seasons. Shouldn't society demand that sprint car racing be banned too?

The judges had Kurt winning Round 1 and Healy winning the rest...
He has never lost so its definitely going to be interesting watching how he responds...
I remember Fedor's quote after losing for the first time in over ten years. "The one who doesn't fall, doesn't stand up." Hopefully Kurt will stand up and get back after it...
|
Unless the ring announcer had the wrong info when he announced the decision, one of the judges had Kurt winning the fight 48-47. So at least that judge thought he won three rounds. I don't necessarily agree with that, but that's what was announced.

The MAIN OBJECTIVE of boxing, mma, and all that crap is to permanantly brain damage your opponent by concussing them. Sometimes to death. Not the main objective in football, nor racing. Tens of thousands of people are killed on public highways every year, but thats not the main objective of traveling the highways. Society shouldn't be sanctioning what in any other setting is felonious assault. Period.

What and absolutely ignorant post. You know absolutely nothing about these sports obviously. Please keep your posts to things you aren't completely ignorant about. So you don't look stupid, and we don't have to know you're stupid.

Just can't get into a "sport" where the primary, main objective is to permanantly brain damage your opponent. Outside the ring, it's felony assault. Stupid, and shouldn't be condoned in a civilized society.

Good!! don't watch it, go away and go mow your grass..You are as DUMB AS A BAG OF HAMMERS..Seriously?

Tell you what, go do some research on what sports cause the most deaths and serious head injuries. You might be surprised how many high school football players die or get paralyzed playing their favorite sport. Being and ignorant ass is no way to go through life!

Willie, I enjoy watching people beating crap out of each other as much as the next guys. Hell, I was watching a video of the 20 best UFC knockouts the other day (and highly enjoying it too). But to compare the total number of head injuries in high school football to MMA is disingenuous. There's infinitely more high school football players across the country as compared to MMA fighters. It's like comparing apples to crescent wrenches.

No it's not. I'll stand 100% behind what I said. Both sports involve people being intentionally violent, and both sports pose similar risk of head injuries as well as other injuries. It is not like comparing "apples to crescent wrenches" as you say. How sure are you that there are so many more participants in football? That sport is mainly played in North America, and most of it in the US. MMA is a world wide sport. It is not only mega popular over here now, it has been mega popular in Europe, Japan, and South America for many years. On top of that, there are far more people participating in the sport than you ever see on TV.

He wrestled at Indiana University.

He also won a national championship his senior year at IU, can't remember the year (2010?).

My argument was based on American numbers, I wasn't thinking worldwide. (Ethnocentric? Yeah.) In the U.S. there are 1.1 million participants in just high school football. I'm not even including other levels of football. I would imagine that there aren't close to 1.1 million MMA fighters in the U.S. Now, if you are including the rest of the world..... I don't know. I'm too lazy to look it up too.
On another note, I am looking forward to seeing Jon Jones get back in the octagon in May. Hopefully he's off the nose candy.

"When you argue a topic with logic, always resort to personal attacks" The creed of the Keyboard Commando.
You should talk to a Neuroscientist or Molecular Biologist and get back to me. And no, they are not to keen on football either. 1 concussion does permanant, irreversible damge to the brain. FACT. A person knocked out is concussed. FACT

One concussion does permanent, irreversible damage to the brain? Some of Hosehead's finest must have played a lot of football, boxed, and fought in the octagon all at the same time.

So let's continue your train of thought then. My daughter suffered a concussion playing softball. I guess our logical conclusion here is that girl's softball should be banned? Am I not correct?
Of course we'd have to ban racing for sure. People even get killed doing that, not just suffer the occasional head injury. That should also be on the banned list shouldn't it?

Also, I really don't give a diddly damn what any neuroscienctist or molecular biologist has to say on the subject. Concussion dangers or not, boxers, mma fighters, racers, football players, all know the risks associated with their activities and willingly accept those risks because they love the sports they participate in. Seems like the only ones that have a problem with it are pacifist (spelling?) liberal democrats. I don't care what any of them think either.

He made the NCAA tourney all 4 years, but seemed to struggle there. He never made All-American status (8 place or higher). Still had a very impressive career for IU. 3rd in total pins for the school. He had a killer head throw.
