They could do a random ticket draw for the fans and the winner gets to announce the first heat race. If you swear or do a crappy job you get tossed out for the night. Leave it up to the fans on how he did, lots of cheers you stay, lots of boo's and you head for Dingus's for the night.

Sorry, but did you say "lots of booze and you head to Dingus's for the night"? Seems a little redundant.

So let me get this straight, what you morons are saying is he CANNOT improve. Yeah, I really gave the guy a severe bashing, shame on me. I bet you if you asked the guy, he would say the same about his performance. Sorry to have wrinkled your skirts!

Everyone's a critic. Most people also have no idea how hard it is to step into to a high profile position and try to please everybody knowing that you cannot please everybody. Let the young man develop his game. Nobody sounds the same the first time on the mic as they will the 100th time. But it sound like this guy worked hard to prepare, know the drivers, crews, sponsors, etc. No matter what you think of his announcing prowess, THAT should be appreciated.
Is this heaven?
No, it's Iowa....Knoxville, Iowa.

I listened to him all last year on KRLS. We travel to town frequently to watch the races and we usually listen to the radio while we are in the stadium, it's easier to hear over the crowd when you wear ear buds. I thought Kris was great then and I think he's doing great in the booth now. He knows his stuff. The kid has a passion for the sport. Leave him alone and let him find his nitch and I'm sure he'll be great. I heard that he did some PA stuff in western Nebraska and down in Tennessee so clearly this is not his first rodeo. I can't wait to see how he will end this season.

If you're talking about Kris Krug, he is realitively new to annoucing in general and definitely new to booth annoucing (having done some pitside reporting last year).......I've known his family for years and watched him grow up around the sport having raced karts himself for years and watching his cousins race late models and ARCA........he's a great kid, with a broadcast degree (something most of us don't have), and a passion for racing....although I've never heard him announce, I 'm sure given some time, he'll do fine...........when I first started back in 92, my second call was the WOO at I-80 Speedway (pre Johnny Gibson days) plenty nervous for sure, but they were great guys to work with............welcome to the club Kris.............................Stan Cisar, Eagle Raceway/ASCS Midwest Announcer

Amen. My first night in the booth at little Petaluma Speedway was about the most nervous I've ever been behind a microphone. Talking to a tree or a wall at a radio station is nothing compared to live action, entertain me now, everyone is listening announcing via open mic at a speedway. Add into the equation, this is the Mecca of Sprint Car Racing and home of the Knoxville Nationals, and I'd give him at least this entire season to find his sea legs before criticism from peers is even remotely warranted. I don't know Kris at all, but would encourage him to breathe and enjoy the moment. There's nothing like having thousands of people in your hands all anticipating the green as the field comes to green at the start of the feature. It's a "fix" to which there is no equal. Good luck Kris. - Ron Lingron, Petaluma Speedway announcer

This use to be a informative site but anymore it seems to be a bashing site. If announcing is so easy all of you critics should be putting your name in for the job. Been there & done it at Knoxville & that 1st yr. was a terrify thought trying to please EVERYONE, owners, drivers, sponsors of cars & the track, fairboard, fans & yourself. SO get off the porch & visit some other tracks & see what announcers, flagmen, track crew, fire/medical crew (if any) & facilities they have ~ will make you, or should, appreciate Knoxville Raceway. Don't you feel better when you vent enjoy the races.
