Up until 1996 we had that - WITHOUT USAC. They let the fox in the hen house - the outcome was as predictable as it could possibly get. I've said it before and nobody seems to get it. It's already been proven and USAC actually helped prove it. It almost doesn't matter what you put on that race track during the fair. Butts will fill the seats regardless. Additionally it has already been proven that late model and modified shows there get nearly midget nationals crowds. So imagine putting on one of those during the fair. What's not at stake here is the future of the high banks or a nationals event of some kind during the fair. What IS at stake is the future of midget racing during the fair. USAC had their shot - they blew it. If they understood that they could play a leadership role in actually DOING something to solve the problems everybody knows exist with midget racing today we wouldn't be where we are now. The first group or person who decides to take the lead and DO something gets the prize. Anyone that suggests that USAC is the solution or even has one is clearly delusional. All you get with USAC is more of the same. Which is NOT a solution. It's a perpetuation of the problem.

A lot has changed since 1996. How did that Belleville 100 modified race turn out for you? While the locals may turn out for the fair races regardless of what is on the track. No one will travel to Belleville to see anything other than the midgets.

I will give you the future of midget racing is at a crossroads. However, keeping one of the crown jewels relevant should be a top priority. To get the nationals back to a relevant race you need USAC and POWRi to get on the same page and promote this race.

The Belleville 100 had issues that had a lot to with things that have nothing to do with a race during the fair. Weather being one of them but there were others that people more familiar with the situation could point out I'm sure. Had that race been put on during the fair and with different people involved in the promotion it would have been one of the biggest modified races to date in the history of this country. I'm confident that you are wrong about "No one will travel to Belleville to see anything other than the midgets" but sincerely hope I never get a chance to be proven right. As soon as the arrogance that has taken over USAC in recent years subsides I can see them getting another chance at being involved but until then there are a lot of people that are OK with whatever may come without them given the present circumstances.

evidently people will travel to Belleville for races other than midgets. last Labor Day races drew a crowd of 3150 people for a late model, modified, and 360 sprint show they have been drawing crowds for the last 100 years. late model shows in the past few years have drawn capacity crowds. midget nationals draw between 2400 to 3400 people

I sent an e-mail to USAC president Kevin Miller letting him know how chicken shit I firmly believe it was for them to schedule this race when they did. Much to my surprise he replied - quickly. Mr. Miller either truly does not understand the impact scheduling this race will have on the Belleville Midget Nationals or wants me to believe that he doesn't. Keep in mind this is the same person who didn't see a problem with scheduling the midget race at Newton, IA directly against the midget nationals two years ago. So outside of sincere prayers for rain in Eagle, NE on the night of this race USAC will get its way. Mr Miller's insistence that USAC did not schedule a midget race against the midget nationals and, therefore, they have committed no foul is about as sincere as Bill Clinton's "I did not have sex with that woman, Monica Lewinsky". I could post his e-mail for all to see here but I understand that not everyone here feels the same on this topic. If you do - send me an e-mail through this message board and I will be more than happy to forward you Mr. Miller's reply to my e-mail to him.
