He did a few turns at the wheel in USAC stock cars too. This being a MOPAR unit, I'm a little skeptical. This could be before his days with Ford.

Love the Ruby page. Wynns Friction Proofing what a fixture at all race tracks. Love the "STOCK CARS"
I still got a Wynns Friction Proofing ash tray. Never used it though. I gave up smoking 9/17/06. As a kid I even had a yellow shirt with printed race cars and the Wynn's logo all over it. Maybe similar to the one the Wynns guy in the back ground is wearing?

This has got to be my favorite shot. Pure trouble, a hot red- head and a 170mph+ Indy car on a single axle open trailer.

Today we bury the body, but not the spirit of a Great Man, Legend Lloyd Ruby.
There are so many, so many friends and fans of Lloyd Ruby that knew him better than I ever did. Yet like so many, when it came to Indy and beyond, he was our representative from this corner. It was not until these last few years that I became more aware of his stature. He was like the local hero, the one who did it all and then faded into the background for a good number of years.
I always had access to Lloyd, in more ways than I could count. I knew his stomping grounds and if I didn't, I knew just who to talk to in order to find out. Still, it is hard for me to talk easily to a man of such greatness when I'm certain MANY want a slice of his time everyday.
Thankfully, he touched many of your lives in ways that only you know.

Hang onto your roots boys. I've done everything I can do. It's in your hands now. The good Lord willin', I'll be showing up from time to time to see how you're makin' out.

In the end the pictures, stories, friends, family and who we are, are what we have left. The journey to point "B" is filled with conflicts, hard decisions, and failures that add to the sweet taste of what matters the most. Workable bad turned to good, and the leftover incorrigible memories soothed from the forgiveness of the Higher power we believe in. May we always have enough friends to sit down and have a simple game of cards with and reminisce the good times.

Here is a historical tid bit about the hat that Lloyd is wearing in this photo. It is a hat made by the Moore Hat Company here in Lawton, Oklahoma. The company don't exist any more, but Lloyd wore Mr. Moore's hats during the 1960's and early 1970's. The name of the hat was called "The Bulldogger". My dad still has his "Bulldogger" that he bought in the 1960's, it's still in the original hat box too.

Mike,
I know you have your responsibilities, but I wish you could have made it out to Lloyds Saturday night. Donald Davidson was soaking up all the history and memories he had with Lloyd over the last 45 years. He was very easy to talk to, or in my case, tolerant. I wish I could just call him up now and then when i have a question, but a few minutes was cool enough.
He first met Lloyd in 64 on the morning of race day. He was a young guy and he was scribbling down his predictions for the race outcome. Lloyd spots him and says "Whatchya got there?". Donald explains it to him and says he has him figured to run 7th. Lloyd looks back and says "Hell, we'll do better than 7th!"
Lloyd Ruby made it to the end in spite of the opening lap melee, and finished 3rd that day in a roadster.
