If you're an Ohio farmer, you're probably familiar with all this, but this is one thing I found: https://odh.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/odh/know-our-programs/harmful-algal-blooms/welcome/
One question: If fertilizer runs off, does that mean its excessive?
Sorry for the digression, the subject of Ohio soil came up & I've been curious about this for a while
back to racing...

No, it does not always mean it is excessive. The worst thing that can happen after fertilizer is applied is to have a gully washer of a rain. Then a lot will run off and that is a financial loss to the farmer. It is best to have a couple of lighter rains first to get it into the soil. In my travel through Ohio and Indiana last summer I saw a lot of tillage still going on there and that increases soil erosion. Any time soil washes into a stream it carries nutrients with it. I notill plant all my crops with last years stalks on top of the ground as a mulch. I utilize contour strips also to control it. In Pa. we have the Cheasipeak Bay cleanup program which has really helped this condition in the Bay. I have been designated a twenty year cooperator with that program. Did you notice the animal and human waste aspect mentioned in the article. ie the sewage aspect that I mentioned earlier. No one ever wants to talk about that one because controling that would cost taxpayer money instead of business owner money.

Thanks for the explanation. Sounds like you're conscientious about your farming
I've never farmed, but worked at a waste treatment plant for a while, & they go to great lengths to clean up the water before its discharged. Maybe not all of them do so well
Did you know that improvements in life expectancy over the last century have been due more to water treament than medicine? People used to dump raw sewage in the rivers & people died of cholera all the time

That is why I don't like very slick tracks all night long. By feature time the track is totally junk!! See Fremont and except Saturday the Juniata county oval.
I can only hope going forward they will prepare Port the way they did Saturday night. That was very exciting!!
Let's go Sprint Car Racing!
Knoxville - Best Track In the USA!
Eldora - 2nd Best Track in the USA!

Oh Lordy, those Ohio tracks are dusty. I'll take the fog at Watsonvilly any day. But I do like all the green flag laps like tonight, Rico was so good in traffic. It would be nice to see how close he got to other cars in turn 1 but the dust made that impossible.

As a Pa Posse fan, you will NEVER hear me complain again about track conditions. It seems like the Ohio tracks are getting worst as the week progresses. If it has been hard for me to follow the cars on Flo, I can only imagine what it has been like sitting in the stands. I noticed all the winners have been very diplomatic when asked about track conditions in their interviews. Conratulations to Rico. His team is starting to be a force. Whatever speed he found in Pa last week has carried over to Ohio. I know he runs an EMI (Eagle) chassis like Larson. Does anyone know who builds his engimes?

Rico said in vl interview last night he had a speedway under the hood.
Agree on the dust issue. Watched on Flo and could barely see the cars on the backstretch. Kyle, Rico, and Reutzel have said in post race interviews that the dust made it difficult to see when running in lapped traffic. Isn't that a safety issue?

That was bad. Rico did a great job handling traffic. Strawser, I don't agree with you to much when it comes to track conditions. As a driver, sure the heavy track makes it easy for the fan, but for the guy behind the wheel it's usually follow the leader, hammer down racing. That dust was bad on TV I can only imagine what it was like sitting in the stands or the drivers seat.
By far, Lincoln has the best surface in central pa, I'm pissed at Rahmer for dropping Path Valley from pa speedweek. One of the best racing 1/4 mile tracks anywhere.
Tony Stewart and team 14 has not been to any ohio speedweek shows ? Reutzel needs to go WoO racing, he is that good.

If Port is like it was this past Saturday....you will have something at the Juniata county oval.
As for OH and NY tracks they are all pretty dusty....that is fine as long as you can see them race and the driver can get grip on the track. It makes the racing more exciting for the fans. The drivers when they feel comfortable will take more chances and put on a great show for the fans.......I probably said this a few times.....I hate slip and slides all night long. Your track for the feature should be at its best for racing.....just saying!!
The Fremont track the other night looked like they were in very slow motion....I would rather watch grass grow than watch that again.....there would be more excitement!!

If I remember correctly a Micro Sprint racer got injured pretty seriously in the last Speedweek race he promoted. Plus there were questions concerning the overall safety of racing 410's at the little bullring. I believe the owners have addressed some of those issues by installing some new fencing.

Judging by tonite's racing, must be the Ohio soil. Every race I watched has been real dusty

I believe that's only part of it. It's been in the low to mid 90s with only spotty rain and a ton of sunshine all across the state for two solid weeks. Couple that with the soil and it's worse this week than normal. I can't deny that we have dusty tracks in Ohio normally, I just think it's been worse than normal in most places during Speedweek.

Again the added water and rain helped again last night. That kind of racing is what the Port used to be like all the time.

It's a lot dryer and hotter than most speedweeks that typically happen 2-3wks prior to this week. I've seen all tracks posting putting water on the track each day and working on them all week. The only way to get around it is for it to have no moisture and take rubber. Everyone cries about it every year when it really isn't that bad on most occasions. Everyone just likes to fancy themselves a track prepper when in reality they don't know shit even if they had a mouthful of it.

That rain didn't change anything. They brought the latemodels back out after it ended and went straight to green flag hotlaps.

Exactly. The rain was a non factor. It was so light and quick moving that we never left our top row seats when it did rain.

Selinsgrove had a heavy downpour that took about 3 hours to run the track back in. Track was narrow and extremely fast but was smooth at least. The 360's looked like rocket ships flying around there, not much passing though. Here's the surprising part. The heavy wet track was actually more dusty than when it is dry and slick. Seems like when the track slicks off, it's not only more racy but also less dusty. Not sure what's up with those OH tracks, dirty clay? Usually good racing though.
