Right... can you imagine how wound up a driver is after risking your life in those crazy races?
They definitely need some "decompression time".... but probably interviewers want the controversial, heat of the moment comments
|
And just how much time do you think Foyt or Hewitt would need to "decompress"?
It's just fine with me to interview drivers shortly after a race. So some here don't want interviews shortly after a race. They want to give them some time to what, Meditate so they can get a hold of their emotions? Like it or not, it's good for the sport.
Half the lies they tell about me aren't true.

after all of the opinions on "what happened". Is anyone going to tell us what actually happened? Or is this a case of everyone knows someone who says they knows but no one actually knows firsthand. I might have lost myself there.. Anyway. What did he say thats got everyone fired up ?

It is not so much as on the mike right after a race, it is the idiot fans that make a big deal out of everything they say. Interview them but do not be a dick head because they said something your snow flake mind could not digest.

Damned if I know.... maybe not yet????
But I guess my point is, if you stick a mic in their face right after a race, can't really give them grief if they're less than 100% diplomatic...

This is so true and unfair to the racers at the same time. To be fair, in this case I think it was more the author of the article instead of the fans. However, when something takes place on the track that could be controversial, we all want to hear from the drivers. I do think it's good for the sport to show some emotion from the drivers. But I think the fans and the media need to understand that what they're saying at the time shouldn't be held against them.

The ten page article, (12 if you count the opening two page picture of Larson) on the Chili Bowl in the March Sprint Car and Midget magazine was tremendous. It was as if you had watched it on tv or actually been there. The article was written by Patrick Sullivan and totally in depth, with quotes from drivers, owners and crew chiefs. Best written coverage of any race I did not see in person or see on tv. Sullivan either has an extraordinary memory or he watched replays of the primary races several times to get it all on paper. Longest race article I've ever seen in a magazine and would like to see more like it. Even if you saw it on tv or were there in person, it is worth the read. Hated to get to the end of the article, wish it had been even longer as that's how interesting it was.

Hey...
Thanks for posting and reading Dirt Monthly Magazine. Here is exactly what I wrote about the post-race in my column in the January issue.
"Christopher Bell was very clearly disappointed following the post race and I’ll not denigrate anyone for not properly handling disappointment as we all have our instances where emotions rage over sportsmanship but the clear impression gathered from media and fans I’ve talked to were that, as a three-time champion who finished runner up, Bell could have appeared more gracious in defeat. Bell is too big of a star and too great of a kid to have his reputation tarnished. I hope he uses this as a learning moment. The greatest champions know how to lose the best, too."
I meant to convey that there were people commenting after the race and that Christopher should use it as a learning moment so that it doesn't become a bigger issue in the future. Bell is a tremendous ambassador and I wasn't saying his reputation was tarnished but simply that he could have been more gracious in disappointment and I don't want him to get that reputation. I'm certainly not trying to give him that reputation, just to clarify. That was never my intention.
Cheers,
Justin Zoch

Does that mean he's really disappointed about his Nascar season so far? #overrated
