Anyone know?, cause i don't wanna "google" it, I'd rather "hosehead" it
What the total purse is for the Chili Bowl and what the winner gets?
Do they actually pay back to last place in the O main?
Any idea what it costs to put the event on as far as building rent and track build etc?
Thanks in advance.

I think the winner gets 10k but its not the money they are after. Its the Golden Driller trophy they want. Also Larson said this was his 13th year going after the Golden Driller.

I believe it was about 4-5. I remember him posting something a few years ago of the first car he drove in the event & said he finished 6ish in either the D or E main. Then to finish second so many times & win finally win it.
It will be interesting to watch Larson at the Nationals this year. After failing to even make the A main in his qualifying day, he will be a man on a mission

I don't believe Larson will be able to compete in the Knoxville Nationals this season. The NASCAR race is no longer in nearby Michigan the same weekend. It will be in Watkins Glen NY that weekend.
I'm not saying that it is impossible for him to attempt to qualify for both events. I am only repeating what I have already heard which is that there is a scheduling conflict.

It will most likely depend on his position in the standings at that point. While the past few years Nascar has been in Michigan, there were several years prior that they were in Watkins Glen although Larson was not in the position that he currently is in. Several drivers in the past attended the Nationals and had to get to the Glen over night like Kasey, Tony, and I believe Larson attended some of those years too just didnt race. I believe there was a season that Rico had a similar situation with K&N or Trucks but it was different as his race was on the Saturday and not Sunday. I think if he has a win and is in a good spot, Chip will let him race. If he is in the same situation as this past year then most likely not.

Best part was him in victory lane saying sorry chip but this is bigger than me winning the Daytona 500. What surprised me is the chassis came from down under country. So I wonder, will he be jumping in his car and doing some more midget racing or will it sit until next year for another shot at a golden driller ?
|
He has been running the midgets alot since NASCAR was over. He won some races down under and others in California before Chili bowl. Do you not ever get any racing news? One midget race paid him $38,000 if I remember right.

He won $32,000 last year at the Hangtown 100.

The purse will be $150,000 this year and they will add a day to it so now its a three day show. Should be a fun one, good thing I'm only 45 miles away.

It was at one point at least as the Hangtown is USAC sanctioned. Can't say if it was for the Chili Bowl. Doubt they would say either.

The Chili Bowl is not sanctioned by USAC.

I believe Larson even came from Watkins Glen to run the Friday night show at Knoxville, back the the Glen overnight, and then back from the Glen to Knoxville Saturday night. I believe that was his 2nd appearance at the Nationals.
Anyone confirm?

I looked on RM, and it appears the only thing shown is the time trials and heat races. Did they get rained out again last night?

In 2013 when he was racing in the Busch/Nationwide/Xfinity/Whatever they call it now Grand National Series he ran both the Nascar race & Knoxville Nationals on the same day, August 10, 2013. That was when he drove the Tuner Scott #32 car in Nascar with the whole partnership with Ganassi. After that he did not race it until 2016 I believe but was present a number of times at the event. 2016 the Cup series was on a bye week, and 17-19 they have been at Michigan.

That sounds spot on. So, now that you say that, he flew back the K-ville for Hard Knox Night after Xfinity practice, missed hot laps, ran across the pits during qualifying, jumped into the car, qualified with 3 or 4 cars to go and timed in 3 or 4th quick. Then he destroyed everyone in the A-main locking into Saturday night. He then jumped on a plane, flew back to New York, ran the Xfinity race, jumped back on a plane, and hopped into the car at K-ville and finished------6th???
I think it can be done. It just depends on how willing Chip is and when Cup practice ends on Saturday.

Larson posted on twitter and said the coolest thing about the chili bowl win was that this car was the same as his outdoor cars. No modifications were made even with chili bowl's open rulebook. Considering he rode this chassis at Hangtown I would assume that it means its USAC legal.

Sure can't say the same about a lot of the other cars. They can only race at the Chili Bowl - no other sanctions allow them. Love that a "legal" car won. Congratulations Kyle and King chassis.
