Exactly. the world would be boring wihout its share of eccentrics....

He's living the life that lots of us would like to attempt. I think I'd get burnt out on all the long distance driving, but wouldn't mind trying it for a while....

Yeah, no thanks on wanting to live his lifestyle.  if he contrubuted more to society other than articles on sprint cars, I may have more respect for him.

I think he has weaknesses & strengths.  Passion for the sport & tons of info, could probably organize or edit it better....

I feel his writing would improve with better editing.

And would think more of you is just shout the hell up! I love how people use the"contribute to society "thing lol! You really have no clue while shop at wall-mart and such. His attention to race detail is spot on and living in California gives him the opportunity to see many races.

Where's my beer or scotch on the rocks? God-damn it! 40
plus years of dirt track racing in these old veins might
get me condemned by the EPA.

Eckert is living proof that a high IQ doesn't guarantee you common sense.  Complete waste of talent.

I like how some people are always so quick to critisize the efforts that other make while they sit back on their fat asses and educate the world on how things are supposed to be done without so much as trying to contribute.  No wonder today's generation has the whole "You owe me" attitude because people are too damned lazy to do things for themselves.

Here's an idea:  Before you write your next critisim, try writing a story yourself and see what kind of response you get.  And people wonder why I got out of this stuff myself.  Just too much BS.  Either go to the races and enjoy them or if you want to read about them, shut your pie hole, keep your fingers quiet and be thankful that someone took the time to inform you on what you wouldn't or couldn't go see.

Paul, you just did what you are ranting about. 2hnker made a comment about an identifiable person whose work is public for all to read and assess. However you just attacked someone you don't know, about a single statement based on his assessment.

Why do you think 2hnker is fat or lazy and doesn't contribute to the world? You are guilty of your own judgement.

Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

You have been MIA for a few years Paul, it's good to hear from you.  Check your email, I sent you a photo of my  guitars and some links to bands my telecaster builder has worked with.  He rewired the Peacemaker for the lead player in Texas Hippie Coalition and does some work with Locust Grove out of OKC as well.  Also sent a clip of my son-in-law's band warming up the crowd for Steel Panther, Todd is their guitar tech in additon to doing some work for the aforementioned bands.  Since putting the camera and notepad down and retiring I'm trying to set a new record as the world's oldest metal head.  Turned 68 today so I'm still playing music and padding my stats.  Oh yeah, every now and then I'll pop back in here to see what's going on with Sprint Car racing.  Seems to me that they don't play well together in here like they used to fifteen years ago.  It's just entertainment...I try to remember that.  wink

Yeah you are definately right Stan.  I guess I've been away far too long and things are definately not like they used to be around here.

Such a shame that what once was such a great sport has been spoiled by so many wanna bes and owe-it-to mes that just don't understand what it used to be like out here.  Pity.  The appreciation for the pure sport has just disappeared and as a result, we are left with promises of shows and memories of what used to be running wide open on our tracks.  Tracks are dissapearing as fast as the car counts.   I remember writing an article once that riled up just about every promoter that we visited.  Sad to say it but here we are and no one to blame but themselves and the parents of the "My kid is the best driver in the country and I'm gonna buy him his ride to prove it".

Do I regret l;eaving the sport?  once in a while.  Then I come on places like this and read this kind of crap and smile, knowing I made the right choice.  These "fans" have all the answers so there you go.  Enough said.  Soapbox folded up and put away.  Back under my rock for teh next decade now.  Done playing....

"without so much as even trying to contribute"..... contribute?  Uh, my household contributes nicely in the form of paying taxes on a monthly/yearly basis.  How is that for contributing?  A lot more out there in life than sprint car articles.

I turned 69 a couple of weeks ago... damn whippersnappers & your heavy metal music! wink

I was more of a folkie, then obviously got into 60s hippie music & soul (went to Woodstock!)

I liked the "gotta love the old timers" comment.  Do you by any chance remember the Jim Kweskin Jug Band? Saw their reunion in NYC a few years ago... John Sebastian (Lovin Spoonful, Woodstock, & "Welcome Back Kotter" theme song) sat in the whole set. They were still giving each other shit over stuff that happened well over 50 years ago... it was great! Smile
