For those of you saying that there has ALWAYS been a rain date for the Doty race, I wouldn't exactly say that is the case.

From what I could find in my 5 minutes of searching here is what I can tell you.

For at least 5 years (2011-2015) and more than likely more than that, the Doty was held at Lima.  Each and every one of those races were run on a Wednesday night except for 2015.  In 2015 the race was rained out and the schedule appears it rained out on Thursday, July 16th.  My guess is they used Thursday as the rain date because If I remember correctly, it rained both Wednesday and Thursday in Lima in 2015.

In 2016 through the current schedule of 2019 the race has been run at Attica on a Tuesday night as scheduled, no rain date needed. (And no, I don't know how 2019 is going to turn out, but all others have been run on a Tuesday)

Looking at the above numbers, 7 of the past 8 years of this race (87.5%) it has been run on the actual scheduled date.  Also, if I remember correctly, in 2015 the WoO decided on Wednesday night, July 15th to run it the next day.  Then the next day rained out also.  I believe after this situation happened was when Brad started asking for a rain date.  So up until 2016 there never was an actual rain date set in stone.

I also realize the Doty is a great race at Attica, but no one ever mentions that it is just a regular paying WoO purse that has somehow been lumped in to the "month of money".  There is no extra money for the racers.  I get what the race is all about, but I don't see why everyone is so would up over the WoO & USAC officials using the Wednesday night of the Royal week for the make up date.  Many of the non-wing guys are based out of Indiana and it is only a couple hour tow to Eldora.  The WoO guys are also in the neighborhood so it only makes sense.  Take into account how many nights the WoO have already lost due to rain and I see it as a good thing.  It also gives the guys lookinig to run the actual Kings Royal race another night to dial their stuff in.

I'd say to everyone.  Calm down and instead of looking at how bad this is or could be, look at the good that can possibly come out of it and just hope like heck that the weather is good on Tuesday night this year.  I'd say you have a 87.5% chance that all will be well.

To add to your points, 2015 it was rained out after two attempts (Weds & Thurs) but mother nature wouldn't cooperate & Lima has terrible drainage. In 2016 Eldora added a 3rd day to Kings Royal week. Not sure what exactly happened but the decision to move the race to Tuesday was basically to have another day window for a "rain date." There was even a stir on another message board about it about the whole WoO Eldora conspiracy sticking it to other tracks in Ohio. I think at the time Roger Slack said something along the lines of he had no obligation to other tracks, just to Eldora & to make the best shows for the track.

The race is a special race especially for fans in Ohio. The car count is great, it's always competitive, and it for Brad so the grandstands are packed.

To me, unless they paid for both dates then the whole idea of it having a rain date is basically an assumption. I love the race & it's one of my favorites but I'm not going to subscribe to the theory of WoO & Eldora are sticking it to Ohio tracks like other fans in this state do. It business, not politics as others try to make it out. Multiple parties involved, USAC, WoO, Eldora, Fans. They looked at an open date & this was one. It's unfortunate & Brad does have a right to be upset because the whole thing is unfair for everyone. But as you said, it does have a potential of being a great week

Read closer. He is saying the same field of cars for 4 days is too much. You dont have the same field of cars on any two days at the Nationals, let alone 2 days in a row. Even a ficticious Canadian sees that.

Bingo! The Kings Royal ain't the Nats. It's more or less a glorified outlaw show strung out for 4 days now.

I agree the KR is not the Nationals, nothing will ever come close to the Nats. But Eldora is becoming a very racey joint and thats what I love to go watch as a fan. The atmosphere at the Royal is electric and gives me chills to watch. It's crazy you say its a glorified Outlaw show that is strung out for 4 days now. I bet if you asked the lots FULL of people that camp out from Wednesday-Sunday morning they would have a far different opinion.

I agree. I have been going to the Kings Royal for about 10years now and always look forward to that whole week as it is my favorite week of racing. At first I was able to go to The BDC & Eldora Fri/Sat without taking a day off work. When Eldora went to having a race on Thursday it made it even better in my opinion. Any time you can add a lineup and the quality of cars that come out to those events it is a good thing. Typically for that week you have teams from California, Knoxville, and PA coming to run. Now you have the potenital of seeing 50+ cars at Attica on Tuesday, WoO & USAC on Wednesday, Then two good Outlaw shows with around 50cars Thursday & Friday, then the Kings Royal. We basically get a bonus Speedweek in Ohio on top of the Ohio Sprint Speedweek that we already have. Obviously different because a majority of it is happening at one track but you have 5 straight days of racing in 1 area with some of the best drivers. I wouldnt call that overly glorified.
