Too bad track owners and promoters are so independant. What if (one of my very few) the top five to ten sprint car tracks gathered together with a group of drivers/teams and came up with their own rules package? Would that force the WoO to relenquish some of their power/control and conform to what the tracks want? Maybe that's what it takes to get sprint car racing to a better level. You're right Murphy, and the WRG/WoO are only looking out for their interests, which I think is actually short sighted.

I think the sport has been down that road, or at least pondered looking at the road map a couple of times: USA, NST and more recently the NSL.

Knoxville has kind of flirted with things I think- non-sanctioned Knoxville Nationals and 1400# Nationals for example.

Heck, even Donny Shatz has experimented with a cheaper motor program.

It would take a coming together of the major tracks like Knoxville, Eldora, Williams Grove and Lincoln for example and some of the more succesful drivers and owners to get any changes at least talked about.

F-1 has been supported by factory teams since it's inception Murphy. BUT, every other series that has been born on American soil has had just that. Indy cars lost it first, the rules got so out of hand from year to year that if you didn't have the right chassis/motor combo, tuff. Fan zero, millionaire owner 1. They threw steve kinser and Sammy a bone to drive indy. Steve crashed out while in the top 10. Sammy, I'm not sure how he faired. Drivers' and mechanics lost there chance to go to indy and started to look at nascar. Many guys from short track backgrounds moved south, look at kyle, look at blaney. If I could ever ask a owner of a indy car 1 question it would be, Why in sam's heck do you guys keep putting drivers in your cars that not one person can relate too ?  Instead they watch aND do nothing. Penske, Gannassi, Andretti. The club. There ruining nascrap now.

I agree with what you're saying. Is the current situation with sprint cars being dominated by the WoO and wealthy owners headed down the same old road?

I'll chime in with "of course it is!" The WoO maintains total control by keeping costs so high that only the most wealthy teams have a chance. That's the "glue" that keeps the wealthiest teams involved, and the WoO healthy.  What percentage of the WoO purse do the top three-five teams take out of the cash register night after night? In NASCAR, the glue for the wealthiest teams was allowing the multi-team ownership. Eliminate that in NASCAR and the wealthiest teams would disperse like a popcorn fart and get the hell out. How much of the lion's share does the Hendrick team alone take out of NASCAR.....purses, engine sales, etc......? But of course the wealth and greed goes well beyond just the teams.....it's the owners of NASCAR being overly greedy, also. Same with the WoO. There is probably no defeating the greed, and that one thing alone can lead to the downfall of not only racing, but even nations (not being political, just saying). That's how powerful greed can become. How much shrinkage of their venues does NASCAR and the WoO need to witness before they get a clue? How long before the WoO only have 20-25 tracks to go to because of no car counts?
