The Kings Royal has paid the same purse to win for 34 years now and I am pretty confident admission has gone up a buck or two.  I know it's gone up from 2nd on back but still come on!  Tony, can make this happen and I am not trying to piss him off he sure helped me back in the day when I was selling NASCAR photos, lol.  This needs to have a few more coins added to 1st place but like the Chili Bowl it ain't gonna stop anyone from racing due to the prestige of the race itself, just my .02.....

I went to the truck race last nite & asked a couple vendors what it cost to set up.  $1500 + 15% for the trucks, $1200 + 10% for the KR and Ohio is the only state where they have to pay sales tax. I bought a opperman shirt off the guy I was talk.

I left after a couple heats & a pizza steak, it was awful.

I've thought for years that charging drivers/teams to sell T-shirts and such is a crock of bull----! That's why there are several that sell outside of the fairgrounds at the Knoxville Nationals. I also think charging is tough on the lesser funded teams. Those teams and drivers need every bit of income they can get to sometimes just keep going. Racing has become corporate minded in nearly every aspect. And in many ways, corporate mentality in racing just plain sucks!

it appears to me that "outside the track" merchandise is becoming the norm, (eldora excluded) and not the status quo.  i would rather have the beer concession here in Chico!!!

Ascot was the greatest of all time..

West Capital wasn't half bad either..

Life is good...

125 shirts at $25 (selling price) = $3125

Actual cost per shirt is probably around $5 or less due to the volume that they have printed and purchase (the more you buy, the cheaper they are per shirt).

I don't know how many t-shirts you have to sell to break even when you include all your costs, but I remember them saying that the last year Steve won the Nationals (2002 maybe) that he made less $$$ than Dana did at the T-shirt trailer and it paid $100,000 to win the race.

Not sure , but I would think that the volume Kinser did, along with some others, is the exception, not the rule. Plus. there have probably been only 6 or 7 drivers that retained the t-shirt sales exclusively for their own profits. Others have had to share the incomes with car owners, etc......

A couple years back Tony Raised the entire purse for the Royal $100,000. Yes the winner still only gets 50k but the car count has grown. $100,000 to everyone but the winner helped alot! I do agree its time to up the winners share after a record crowd this year!

I've been all for upping the payback to those finishing 2nd on back, and much deeper in the field in some of the bigger races for a long time. I think the KR has shown that it does pay off! Probably the best mixed bag top ten finish we will see all year! The format lends to creating that. It's nice that now twice a year, the rewards are more readily available to drivers and teams outside the WoO ranks. I'd like to see Tony offer even more, to those further back in the field, and the C and B Features. To do that, It's obvious that the KR would need to be a true 2 or 3 day event. Not just an event precluded by two WoO shows. The Knoxville Nationals makes the rewards available simply because of the near Million dollar purse. The Nationals were structured with huge car counts in mind, and the Nationals pays out and deep! Larger car counts will still lead to larger and continually growing crowds at the larger most prestigious events. Long live sprint car racing!

But how do they know what the gross is?   Those businesses don't have to tell them as the State Fair isn't a business partner in their business.

Tell me how the State Fair knows how much gross sales someone has?    Does the state fair own the cash registers so they can go in and print a gross sales report (they don't BTW - each operator owns their own)?

See what I'm saying about how would you even police it?   Best thing is to just use a flat fee for their location and call it good IMO.
