Like Nick, I was more of a pavement guy. A friend roadraced karts and I helped him - went to Mid-Ohio, Charlotte, Pocono, Cleveland Indy car race- raced against Scott Pruitt a few times (though he was in another league even then-brought trick Bridgestone tires to the track in a suitcase).

Then one Sunday morning in the spring of 1982 or maybe 83, my brother-in-law awakes me to a hangover asking if I want to take a ride to Harrisburg - Williams Grove Speedway- to the sprint car races.

I remember it like it was yesterday-the sound, the horsepower- cars lifting the left front under the bridge.......

The next 4 years were the time of my life-all the central Pa tracks- Port every Saturday night in 86- except for trip to the Kings Royal to watch Mr. Kreitz beat them all.

While I'll admit that you might not see the best racing at the Grove, you will see lots and lots of horsepower. It's still my favorite place. Those that bash the place are akin to telling me that my first love was ugly Smile

Thanks for the opportunity to reminisce

I live about an hour away from Knoxville. Went to a few races and was hooked.

Following sprints for me started by watching BIL run modified micros. My nephew followed his dad's footsteps. He ran through the micro ranks and has moved onto running 360 and 410 sprints. It’s a big to do for us when we get to watch him run with the WoO's whenever they come through our neck of the woods. We always hope for him to upset the big boys and steal a win from them. I think it would be pretty cool to see him get that confetti shower on the big stage ....!

In the late 80's I was an impressionable young teenager back in Madison, SD and, through a friend got to hang around Fran Bruns Rawhide Racing 18 shop along with his Brother, whom all here may know as the one and only Bonzai Bruns and the rest of the crew...Belvidere, Halgy, Smurf, Lee and several others .  Just outside of town was the now a pasture Lake County Speedway (be careful when ya bitch about your local track guys as the pasture that cows graze on now used to be a super fast , tacky high banked speedbowl) and it was awesome. I was in awe every time I was there sweeping the floors or just hanging out. And they were fast too, winning points titles in 87, 88, 89, 90 and 91 at tracks such as LCS, Rock Rapids and Husets including all 3 in one year in 1988. Been hooked ever since.
