I can understand both sides of this issue. I want every race track to stay open and make money. But I also think the tracks need to make every effort to race if they give it a shot and get the fans and racers to show up.

I have a question for all of you race fans. Are you telling me that the majority of you are OK with a track taking a head count and counting up the till and then deciding to race or not. We say these promoters are in a tough position which they are but most have been doing this for many years.  Meaning experience should tell them which way to go, only first year promoters get a pass in my book.

And for what is worth I have been  burned by Williams Grove twice with rushing the heats thru and then dragging the show own with rain in the area. On night just having to do the fireworks before the feature and the other time it sprinkled three times as the cars were pushing out for the feature and then they said we lost the track and see you next week. And by the way after the third little sprinkle it didn't rain the rest of the night.  I went to Sharon for a USAC  race and it rained for 5 minutes and stopped. Oh and the rain was an hour before race time and they cancelled. The head and car count were bad and they would have been in the hole .

Bottom line if tracks are going to try and race, try!!. Don't count A $$, and then decide. And stop rushing shows and then going into slow motion when the rain checks are worthless.

Then they should issue Cash refunds not everyone can just come the following week you freaking moron. People have lives outside this.

Here's a concept for you. If it's a track that you can't attend regularly & the forecast is iffy, STAY HOME.

I'm completely baffled by this post. If you have known all week that the forecast for the weekend was looking so horrible, why would you blame the track? Would you be posting this if they cancelled and it didn't rain but that was your ONE chance to go and they didn't even try? They were going to try, unfortunately things just didn't work out, regardless of the reason. If it's like most tracks, you have three weeks to use your ticket to get in free OR contact the speedway office in regards to a refund or future date voucher.

Mind you, I read this board every day but I've rarely replied to posts unless I see fit. Maybe that's a similar route that many of you should take?

GT.......you are making too much sense. I went last night, 90 miles one way. It rained, oh well I knew that might happen going in. Was I disappointed, yes. Do I blame Williams Grove, no, it is the chance you take being a race fan. Like I said in an eariler post, it was probably the 50th rain out that I have experienced in my 30 years as a fan. I'll use my rain check this coming weekend for the outlaw show......and you are probably right, I am pretty sure you have 3 weeks to use the rain check. Here is a noval idea.....call the track to find out what their raincheck policy is. It is not like Williams Grove is keeping the money. They have a policy in place.

I'm pretty sure you said it was the smallest crowd you have ever seen.  I don't know if I should be telling you this

Those people saw the rain and said hey let's not go. Maybe, just  maybe, they made the smart choice.

I appreciate the offer but no thanks. I don't swing that way. I just offered a common sense solution for your ailment. Sorry that offended you.

Yep agreed. There wasn't any way I was going to drive up.  And I only live 40 min away in Hanover.  Anyone who drove there and was dissapointed, well that's your problem. Look at a radar for Christ's sake. Williams Grove has had terrible luck the last few years with rain. But the pit area was resurfaced. Bridge was painted. $500 to start shows. USAC coming back with an expanded show. 3 day National Open with a better format. Just to name a few. I'm turning this thread around. I'm drunk and im turning it around. Go Kathy. Go Justin. Go Williams Grove.

I rarely post on here but read this message board almost daily.  This has to be the most ridiculous post I've ever read.  As a race fan, I agree rain sucks.  But any outdoor event that needs dry weather, guess what you're going to have some rainouts.  There's nothing that can be done about it, it's an act of god.  Sorry I disagree with almost everything you've said in your posts, but I'll just question a few.  First off do you know the decision was made just because of a head count?  Or does that sound like a good theory?  The second thing is you call yourself a loyal fan, but then you say you're not coming next week.  That's not what I call a loyal fan, when I think of a loyal fan they are there every week, the racetrack is their life.  And what I think is the most ridiculous thing you have said is "It's a free country and if we want to bitch we will."  However then you are upset at people when they disagree with you, isn't this a free country for the rest of us too?

I'm not going to argue, rain sucks for things like this.  And in almost 30 years of attending races I've never experienced a rainout that made me happy.  I've driven 60 miles one way to a race only to find out it's cancelled when I get there (before cell phones and the internet), I've experienced rainouts where there is a little shower and the sun is shining on the way home, and I've experienced rainouts where the promotors are determined to get the show in and push trucks and stock cars circle the tracks for two hours before they give up  (which is the worst in my opinion, I came to see a race but instead I watched cars drive in circles for no reason and I wasted an evening for nothing).  I've also been to races where they get a significant amount of rain and stick with it and get the show in, this is usually not enjoyable either, it's usually cold and damp and the racing isn't the greatest as the track will be too heavy (notice I said usually I know there are times this isn't true).  The bottom line is rain sucks but that can't be blamed on anybody, it's an act of god.  The weather people can't tell you for certain what the weather is going to do tomorrow, and that's their job.

No cash refund. Send your raincheck in the mail like it says on the back of the stub...you will get your money back. I went knowing a cancellation was possible. Quit acting like you went and didnt have a clue.

The Grove has always been NO CASH REFUNDS!!!! Raincheck is good for a month. If you cant make it send it in. Me ill save mine for 15 bucks off Fridays Outlaw show. A loss of 15 this week is a 15 dollar gain next week.

Weakest crowd in 20 years.....lmao......i see you are not a weekly regular, because that statement was far from the truth. They tried. They ran hotlap and it started raining agian. In the half hour to hour they said it would take to run the track in it rained some more. Didnt let uo the rest of the night. The right call was made. Deal with it and stfu.

Sat. Night everone rained out except Port. All the way there it was raining. Even 5 miles from the track. Thought i wasted a trip. Get to Port roads are bone dry and sun is out. Racing gods were in our favor. Chance i took knowing the weather was iffy. Just turned out opposite the night before. Crowd was light there too. Why? some didnt want to take the chance. Their mistake.

Random gibberish:

I can confirm they do issue cash refunds and rather timely, in fact. Just send a note and tell them your story.

Wendell, I don't know how far you traveled, but I lost count of rain-outs I have endured and I'm 200 miles away. So, 8 hours now, 10 back in the day, on the road for nothing. I recall a spring oh so many years ago when the plan was: Selinsgrove Friday night, Port Saturday afternoon, Selinsgrove Saturday night, and then Williams Grove Sunday afternoon. The only race we saw - that didn't get rained-out - was Lincoln on Saturday afternoon - and Lincoln wasn't on the itinerary. 3 days worth of gas, motel, and food for one race.

Slimest crowd in twenty years? - uh, yeah, cuz many knew it was going to rain-out. Some folks (not me) go with the logic and stay home/do something else.

Maybe they pulled the plug before the race teams burnt up any money???

Kathy and Justin want to make money - them bastards!

Just about everyone who posts here has a story like that. It's part of the deal. Fact is, no matter what advances in technology we see, weather will always be at least somewhat unpredictable. Sometimes you roll the dice on an iffy day and it works out. Sometimes it doesn't. That's life. Unfortunately we live in a society that has entirely too many people always looking for someone to blame other than themselves. Every time I drove to a track and got rained out, I had the option to stay home. Almost none of those rainouts were a surprise because we all usually know when there's a chance of rain. I made the decision and I either reap the benefits or deal with the consequences. We drove 5 hours one way to Weedsport a couple years ago for a WoO show. The weather was very iffy but we took a chance and got burned. I don't blame Weedsport or the WoO. We knew the score and we went for it. Didn't work out. I'm sure that won't be the last time either.

Move to California like the rest of the world has. Rain outs between May and October are rare. Of course you may not have drinking water either but hey, don't sweat the small stuff.
