make sure that you plan a trip to the eastern racing museum while your in the area ..... it isn't far from grove  The place is packed with racing history and is a worth while trip.

great advice, thank you. I'm sure we will be stopping there.

Your first order of business should be to get the hell out of that cesspool in the Southeast corner of the state that you are flying into. Use the EMMR and Gettysburg for your history lessons. They will be much safer. Then enjoy the races.

I'm from Milwaukee (not too concerned about my safety, know where not to go) and enjoy polar opposite environments like rural farm communities with dirt tracks and very urban areas as well. It's the suburbs I dislike. One of the things I'm looking forward to is seeing Philly and hitting up some bars and/or restaurants thursday night. Interested in the old city, mostly. Going to stay in Downtown Harrisburg and check out the capital building for sure.

And if you like cold refreshments at the track, be sure to stop at the ABC before going to WG as they don't have a liquor license.  I don't know about Port Royal but I was a visitor to WG a couple of years ago and was shocked to find no beer at the concession stand.

THIS IS EXACTLY THE TYPE OF ADVICE I NEEDED! THANK YOU

Even if you sit on the front stretch, I highly recommend walking around and checking out hot laps and time trials from a few different places to get the full experience. You can take the tunnel from the front stretch into the infield and watch hot laps from turn 1. Then after hot laps take the bridge across the backstretch. There are bleachers in turn 3 that give you a really cool perspective of the cars coming right at you before they pitch them into the corner. Bring goggles though.

will definitely be doing that, I enjoy seeing the races from a few different perspectives throughout the night, especially the first time at a new track. I doubt I could sit still if I wanted to.

I enjoy the hell out of Phunky Philly myself.....

Downtown Harrisburg might be worse

Carlisle has lots of inexpensive motels & if you know the right back road, 10 or 15 minute, low traffic drive thru pretty farmland to The Grove

I haven't found any restaurants I really like near WG, except for one: about 2 or 3 traffic lights south on 15, there's good Thai place on the East side of the highway.

I like to get some exercise during the day at races, so I often go swimming at Lake Gifford Pinchot, about 1/2 hr. drive from WG. Also a pretty drive.... Don't know if it will be hot enough when you're there

Here's a cool thing you will see at EMMR: the "Jiggler", early Flathead to OHV conversion, rocker arms OUTSIDE the head:

Yup.  As long as your cooler is the proper size you always BYOB.  That's all I ever knew growing up.  Needless to say I was quite stuned when I rolled into a couple of tracks with my cooler, years later, and was told, "No outside alcohol."

As far as Williams Grove goes, I almost always sit in turn 3.  Its a different perspective than just your traditional frontstretch viewing of 410's.  Great view of Dietrich juuuust barely missing the inside wall lap after lap on his way to a Natty Open victory.

If you are actually going into Philly and would like to eat something else besides cheesesteaks, (by the way go "American with" on your order) check out Brauhaus Schmitz on South Street between 7th and 8th street.  Authentic German cuisine and great goddamn German beer too. I'm not a fancy beer guy myself, but they bring over German microbrews that are fantastic. The schnitzel is awesome, so are all the other menu options. I've always had great stuff here. Google it and check it out.

SE Pa is not a cesspool, haha.  I've lived here for just about my entire life.

Thanks for the suggestion. You are one of the people I'm hoping to run in to in person.

I have a feeling this will be the first of several visits. especially as long as frontier is doing cheap, direct flights between the 2 cities. that and airbnb makes for some very reasonable travel. If anyone in PA is ever considering coming to WI for a visit, I would be glad to make some suggestions.

So excited for this trip. we had planned on a night in Philly (Thursday) to just check out the city, be on vacation, and I realized the draft (NFL) is that night. Free, in front of the art museum. Stealthy and I are both pretty big football fans so we will probably try and check that out. Kind of a cool coincidence.Forecast seems to have gotten warmer, although Saturday looks questionable. Hopefully the trend that I have been experiencing here in WI (consistently warmer and more pleasant than the forecast predicted) continues in PA.  Pennsylvania we can't wait to be all up in you! Racing season is finally in full swing and I couldn't be happier. Went to Beaver Dam for the IRA this past Saturday night for my first race of 2017 and my desire to keep attending races hasn't waned one bit.

Saw Lucas Oil Late Models at Port lt night...bases are set for new Musco Lights and support beams are in place for the new scoreboard...the improvements are second to none in this area.

The track at the Grove was excellent on Friday and both the 410 and 358 mains were some great racing. Hopefully they get it right again this Friday and we all get to see a good show.

I'm sure after the success of last nights Lucas Oil late model show they put a nice little nest egg in the bank account for more improvements.

Looks like the Lucas Oil late models found themselves a new home in Pa Posse sprint car country and two Pa Mudslingers took home the top two spots. Rick Eckert and Gregg Satterlee!

I'm surprised they had such a great crowd for Sunday night LM show. Some people on the board tell us that no one is interested in watching cars that are 2-3 seconds slower than a 410 sprint. haha

Yes, I read that via twitter. Happy to hear that. I like a lot of different racing, but have always really enjoy half miles and wings, so I'm sure I will be very happy regardless of the conditions.

Today is the day! Me and larryitis are enroute to the prestigious grounds of Williams Grove Speedway! We want to meet some of you guys from the backstretch! If you see a guy walking around with a bright orange J Dilla shirt yell out "Larry!" He will be with a guy with a grey 5D composites hat on. That's me!

Otherwise where does everyone sit? We would love to stop by, have a beer and watch some racing with you guys!
