I can't remember- are you from the area? I agree 100% about keeping the show moving along.

40 years ago, Black Hills Speedway near Rapid City, S.D. used to do something interesting with their sprint car/ modified heats. Fans called them slow heats and fast heats. What they did was run two heat races. The first was made up of the low point average cars and the second was made up of the high point average cars. It made for a little more competition in the heat races.

What would you think of something like that at Husets, especially if a gaggle of 360's showed up on Sunday nights? The little guys would have a little more even competition and fun in their heats and the faster ones would start a little further ahead in the feature.

Huset's did something similar for a while about the same number of years ago. One difference was the field was split by total points and not averages. Finishes in heat races had no bearing on feature lineups, which were inverted by total points.
I don't think it would work today. Points averages can be easily manipulated. Also puts first-timers at a disadvantage by having to start in the back. And if you had enough cars to run a "B", not entirely fair because it would keep some faster cars out of the "A" because their heats were against better cars.

Step 1.  Win the next big PowerBall or MegaMillions jackpot.

Everything is just sillyness.   If you had enough business senses to earn the X millions that it is going to take to buy the track, your business senses would tell you that spending X million for a track in that market makes no sense.   However, if you win the lottery, you will have enough money to spend and will not be looking for a return.

I'm a little more optimistic than that. The asking price may be $10 million, but the selling price won't be. In the end, the selling price is what someone is willing to pay for it. What someone is willing to pay for it is dependant on how they think they can make the operation work. Faced with the prospect of selling something a lot lower than you wish, verses waiting until the offers are a lot lower yet, which would you take?

I don't know how much money is tied up in the speedway, but I have to believe that at least some of it is borrowed money. We know that some of it is investor money. Lenders and investors will want their money sooner rather than later, and would be happier to take their licks now, verses waiting to see if it can get worse. I have doubts that the amount of money allegedly poured into the facility is what we are being told.

Speaking of lottery tickets, I have one I would sell you for half price. The odds of it being a winning ticket are mathmatically insignificant from that of a full price ticket. Interested?

The only thing that will make it successful is a purchase price of $500,000 or less.  Not gonna happen unless Chuck figures a half mil is better than nothing which means continuing to make steep annual real estate taxes on the property.  I wonder, is it in the city limits of Brandon, which would make the taxes much higher than being rural.  Would be interesting to know what the taxes are on that property since the inprovements, which should be public knowledge, not sure though, maybe not public knowledge.

Lawlessness and liberalism equals Hell. NY City,
Detroit, Seattle, Chicago, Minnepolis, etc. We saw it.
Burning hundreds of buildings, a thousand assaults and
dozens of murders. Getting worser and worser.

The racetrack is just outside the city limits of Brandon.

Property taxes are public record in South Dakota, along with Real Estate sales....

Starting anytime before 7:30 or 8:00 kills the track with cars that run tires and are as powerful as sprint cars.  Start the show around those times with not time trials and keep the show moving.  I remember when you pushed off almost as soon as the checkers flew on the race before or the pit steward would about have your ass!

I always figured I could make my million dollars inventing something good. For as many times as I've sat at Husets watching racers come into the 4th turn blinded by the sun I've had the same idea.

Build a fence at the top of the hill above the existing privacy fence. Make that fence about 40' tall out of a nylon curtain that lets the wind through, but blocks or filters the sunlight. The fence could be strung between flagpoles and only needs to be up on race night. To cover the cost, it could say "Eat at Joe's" on one side. When someone steals this idea, I hope they at least have courtesy to send me my million dollars in small, unmarked bills.

And I whole-heartedly agree: quit futzin' and get the show on the road.

Anybody think you could make the track 20 feet wider on the bottom?

Because nobody wants to talk about the future? They just want to bitch about what went down?
