Ok, try this.
If he wants his track to succeed he needs to stop being such a dick so that others will like him and work with him.
Does that work for you?
|
You don't have to like someone to work with him. All that is required is that you work together on things that mutually benefit both of you.

That's true that you don't have to like the other party, but it sure makes it easier to work with another party if they aren't trying to screw you from the onset.

The $250,000 Rock N Roll Gold Cup didn't actually pay $250,000.
With all of the added payouts throughout the weekend, the final number paid out...to the penny...was $300,000.
Next weekend, BMS owner Chuck Brennan is giving out free tickets to Medical Professionals and First Responders in the Sioux Falls area.
Congratulations to Chad Boespflug (non-wing) and Rico Abreu (wing) for winning the Gold Cup and taking home $50,000 for the win.

I'd make the track Non Wing and pay the same purses he had this year

Murphy I am not sure what the track has to do to get more cars. If an advertised 10 ,000 and 50,000 to win show doesnt draw them not sure what will. I am sure a segment of K-Ville regs didnt want to run there. Lynton Jeffrey? There all season and doesnt support the big money show? Scott Winters and Matt Wasmund bitched about payoffs and Rubins forever and rightfully so and they weren't there? The Dewalls yes I know they are scaling way back but why wouldnt they be there with Whitney to support a big money show? Kevin Ingle chases WoO shows all over the midwest and wasnt there. Im not even talking about national names but guys that live within 130 miles of the track won't support it. Seems odd.
The Saturday before the Knoxville Nationals it was 2000 to win for street stocks and 305s and they had 14 cars per class, again not sure why those guys don't want to race there.

Cool! What do you think it would take to get the car count and crowd numbers up for next year?
|
given the car counts at other mid west races, maybe they should pay less money next year?

If you're going by the size of the 305 class or the Street Stock class as a means of judging success, stop. The 305 class hasn't caught on like it has at Eagle. There just aren't that many of them around Sioux Falls. The street stocks can vary anywhere from 12-22 each week, you just don't know who will show up or won't show up.

Here's an idea Badlands Speedway......
Since the 410 sprint car whiners and fans don't want to support a race paying that kind of money why don't you give the Lucas Oil Late Model Series a call and offer up that kind of money for a race and watch what happens. See the late model teams across the country could give a rats azz what track/sanction is fueding with what track/sanction because if there's good money being paid they'll be there. Take a trip to Eldora for the World 100 or the Knoxville Late Model Nationals and throw out those dollar figures to the late model teams and see the response they give you. I pretty much guarantee you won't walk away disappointed!

LAME idea. Not only is Sioux Falls dominated by sprint fans, Husets, unless the track is widened BIGTIME will NEVER be able to put on a REALLY GOOD LM show.
Two-wide racing is NOT a good LM show.
See Cedar Lake Speedway, Eagle, NRP, Park Jeff, Brown Cty, Knoxville, Lakeside, LOSW, Rocky, Deer Creek etc for good late model racing in this area. DSFSW in Huron as well. A track in this area that does not race late models but could would be Jackson.
That's not a bash to Husets/BL's, it's just the truth. If lates can't get 3-4 wide in the corners on a dirt track, it's a waste of a show in my opinion. Chuck would have to spend extra money just for all the rear ends that would be tore up trying to put on a truly big late model event.

USAC drew what, 17-19 cars, plus some of the wing guys who removed wings, and the filler was a group of local hobby racers from MN,NE IA etc...... ? Winged sprints are the draw in this neck of the woods. In my opinion the $50,000.00 to win was more of an ego thing than a "lets put up a hell of a show". No doubt in my mind that the Gold Cup could be a huge success, but not with that purse structure. Next year, make it a $20,000.00 to win race and $2,000.00 to start. All the top locals will sure as hell race for $20k just as fast as they will for $50k. Of the other $30,000.00 taken from the winners share, add $25k to the feature (leave the payout for positions 2,3,4, alone). Then add the other $5k to the B Feature, with the payout starting at 5th place, as the top 4 transfer. Run the Cup as a Saturday, Sunday winged event and I'd bet on success!

I think this type of a structure could have some good traction. I'm sure the off season will provide time for BMS to adjust to what worked and what didn't.

BMS definitely should widen the track by 10 feet or more on the bottom for all of their races.

I agree. I've felt that way for a long time, and expressed that idea on this and the NMRA board a ways back. From Google Earth and from walking the track, it looks feasible to widen the track 10-15 feet on the straights, 15-20 feet in the corners. It would change some things, like the pull-off lane around half the track. It would also push more cars into pitting out back. (Not all bad.) Oh, and take down the signs above front stretch inside wall. Imagine what that view would look like if you could see half the track clearly from the pits!
