He was impressive all week. He flat out drove the shit out of it at Lernerville to hold off Donny and was very strong both nights at Williams Grove. He's gonna be very good some day. He possibly may even be great. He's fearless and he has the talent to back it up.

I couldn't agree with you more. He has been battling with Donny on the track at a few of the races in the past month.

he has been a joy to watch some great passes with the countries number 1 shoe The Donny, great pass at the grove between the 2 along with at Eldora and at the recent 25 thousand win! It's been a blast watching them race and pass one another. Makes for some exciting racing!

If I remember correctly even in the 7 car last year at the Nationals Gravel was a driver who started in the front row 4 wide salute! Now that's impressive coming from that car!  Also to win the prelim night at the Knoxvilla nationals in the number6 Bill Rose Car too!!!

I really think he has a great future of one day being the headliner with the WOO or just Maybe someone from NASCAR will finally get a peak at him and give him a Shot seeing he is in his early 20's!!

Obviously if that's where he wants to go, I hope for his sake he gets there but selfishly, NASCAR can just leave their mits off of him for all I care. They've already lured 3 of the brightest young stars of this generation (Larson, Rico and Bell) over to drive their multi million dollar shit boxes and I don't want see any more of sprint car racing's bright young stars leaving our sport.

On his qual night last year, he was 2nd quick, transferred through his heat (4th), and ran 3rd in the A.  That was the highlight of his year... and it's probably not even close!

In the last 4 years, he has made the Nationals A main driving 4 diff cars (89G, 6, 83, and 7).  This year he'll likely make it 5 years in 5 diff cars.  Yeah... he's not bad!

It seems like he hasn't figured out how to attack the 50 lapper... results haven't been great.  He's been putting himself in position though... so when he figures it out, look out.

"....multi million dollar shit boxes...."   Now that made me laugh!!!!

Makes me think how many places in professional sports that we can use this phrase.  I can think of a few NFL players I can refer to as multi million dollar shit boxes!

Didn't realize all that success he had in all the different cars. Imagine if he some stability what's he capable of doing???

Hopefully Barry , Chad, Jenn can create a stable home for him and not change the equation and keep it a one man Team!!

It's just kind of the nature of the beast when you're a hired gun.  Drivers are looking for the best opportunity, but so are owners.  Owners spend a lot of $$$ and have expectations on how much they should win, etc.  Sometimes it's not very realistic, but they're entitled to their opinion!  That team let go a pretty darn good driver to make room for Gravel... so I would think they'll keep him as long as he wants to be there... and keep building.

He drives with a lot of confidence and is really aggressive. He's certainly not afraid of Schatz.

I don't think any of the drivers are "afraid" of Schatz. They're just not as good

Gravel is getting there...

i got to see Gravel at wilmot this weekend. with about 10 restarts he was able to keep Donny off from winning. When you have schatz next to you fir that many starts sure it can be nerve racking. Glad David was able to do so!

Every year there is a driver that makes a run at Schatz. I like Gravel probably my 2nd favorite driver on tour, but he is not Donny Schatz and i know nobody is saying he is. Just like Stewart last year and Pittman the year before(who did pull of the heist of the decade in 2013) these guys are great drivers but dont have the ability maybe to keep it going where Schatz and Warner just are that good and keep the train rolling, yes they may stumble from time to time but they always get back on track.

A note about David & Goliath. A few years ago at Beaver Dam, as they were rolling down the backstretch to take the green (in a heat), Donny cut over and jumped tires with David, on purpose undoubtedly. I messaged David and asked what that was about, he said he had no idea what provoked Schatz. So this may actually be an emerging true rivalry. Great for the sport. I agree with those that have noted how hard David runs at times. It was obvious in his heat and the dash at Wilmot on Saturday night, Gravel wants wins, and now. He's got the confidence and the equipment. Happy to see him doing well. I've been a fan since he was running the family 89 car, I believe even before he was running for all stars points. I'll try to find that video at some point.

I've heard the city he's from in Connecticut is fairly 'urban' and a tough place, can anyone confirm?

Watertown is a residential suburb ( but not really "suburban") of the decaying industrial city of Waterbury, which used to be called "Brass City" because of the many manufacturing companies there. Nearly all the factories are gone, I have a hard time figuring out what people still do for a living there, other than hospitals & Mall, & whats left of manufacturing. Very much like many cities nowadays in the good ole USA.

I wouldn't call Watertown particularly "tough" or dangerous tho, I don't feel threatened there....

But Connecticut doesn't have ANY dirt tracks left....

Wikipedia on Waterbury: "Waterbury's economic decline in the 1970s and 1980s resulted in it being ranked as having the worst quality of life of 300 U.S. metropolitan areas by Money Magazine in 1992. Waterbury was also rated as one of the "Worst Places for Businesses and Careers in America" by Forbes Magazine in April 2008.[29] Regardless, the city was named on the 100 Best Places to Raise a Family list in the same year.[30]

Also from Wiki, on Watertown: "The racial makeup of the town was 96.46% White"

Thats the difference from Waterbury which is "majority minority"

Watertown is definitely not Urban, its a town with very little minorities

Waterbury is in fact Urban  where his Dad grew up and where his business is

I remember seeing him in the 89 when he first started. He showed up in that fancy rig and could barely make a lap without wrecking! Crazy to think how far he has come.
