In case you missed these, I posted the next two, 2 weeks ago. This a new venture we are doing.
I have finally found a location that has all the right ingredients for converting 8mm, 16mm film, beta /vhs conversions, to dvd. I have been to their location, and was impressed! they are established, yet young and hungry to do the best job over anybody else. (They actually want our business and are willing to work for it!)
THE TURNAROUND TIME IS PRIMO! They did these 2 in 3 days! The price was great as well.
and get this- The owner , Alan Liebl told me the details were sharper this time! Meaning, sharper than what the film itself would show from a projector! Deal with these people one time, and you'll see what I mean.
I am now changing around the way I do things to get an even faster turnaround time, to deal with the film backlog.
TURNAROUND TIME HAS BECOME A MAJOR ISSUE LATELY ( here anyways), and I have become aware that fixing that issue will keep me competitive in regards to getting more film we have never gotten to see.

Brian that was one of the best videos yet. If I remember right that race was live on "Wide World of Sports" What race and what track was Jan hurt at? I think it was a champ car race.

September,1976 Hoosier 100. I have that clip, but I just can't show the wreck. To me, that's the day Jan seemed to lose that 'thing' he had behind the wheel. Jan seemed to have God given talent, which inturn gave him bold confidence. Too much confidence possibly, that got him hurt. I never got to see him race at anytime, but since then i have come to identify the day he got hurt - as the day dirt racing and the "why" got hurt too. I didn't hear about Jan Opperman at all for another 5 years, and when I did, had no idea as to why a hippie was such a big deal. Eventually I came to learn as much as I could about him, and realized he was the kind of driver I wanted to be.
1976 was also the last year I got to see the 100" cars and Lawton Speedway , in the ways I liked most. Dad was too short on time and money to pursue racing anymore, and my Uncle had to give it up. If they had the money, they might have continued taking us to watch.
September 1976 was also the time we went to OkC to watch a sprint car race at the Fair. The supers I had seen had so much more appeal to me, but the sprint cars were a more professional route to Indy, which in the spirit of "progress" , that meant I was supposed to be bowled over by the sprint cars even more.....Supposed to.............but I had seen NCRA supermodifieds- How could sprint cars be better? I was only 8 years old at the time, but I sensed something had changed...............You see, the 'spirit' was supposed to be as much or more at a sprint car race. This race was after I think when Jan got hurt, and that maybe why the mood was subdued where we were. Many in the field, and in the stands, either knew Jan, or had watched him do his thing. Now that 'thing' was gone.
Jan came back, but the extra brilliance wasn't there anymore, nor was the invincibility he seemed to have before 1976.
Racing had many, many great days after 1976, but that bold, magical, colorful aura with depth wasn't itself anymore to me. ............
The closest I can get now is to come here- meaning hang out with you guys, whereever it is. But I identify RACINGFROMTHEPAST as the MAIN SHOP I can find it at. I go to other shops too- Texas Open Wheel, oklahomatidbits, and so on. RFTP is where the "8 year old kid" inside of me , expects everything I do , to relate somehow.
I'm starting to ramble too much, but when I say 'it is all about the supermodifieds", I really mean it's about a hell of a lot more than just a car.

Jan drove the Jerry Wilson car at opening night here in Tulsa in 1978. I was in the pits just walking around, Norman did not have the new Stanton car ready for Mike, I don't remember what Jan did in his heat but i think that he started mid pack in the feature and it did not look really like he was doing anything but he keep passing cars and the next thing you no he was leading the feature and won it. It wa probably his last win. I went down by the Wilson pit when he drove and a lot of people were there and when he got out Shane started clapping and the next thing you know everybody was giving him a standing O. He was smiling when he got out and said he did not know how much longer the car would last since it was puking a lot of oil. I still have the "Speed Sport" form that race and their headline was "Jan shines in from of 15,000 at Tulsa" the stands were pretty full but 15,000 might be stretching it.That was a special night I had never had that feeling at race track before or since. I got home between 11:00pm and Midnight and called Mike Peters in Wichita and told him that Jan had won the Tulsa feature. What a night.

Ray do you remember that Harold Leep video you sent ? The short Mar Car clips were the first actual footage I had ever seen of the 100" mod/supermod. It had big hand to motivate me to find and post the videos that related to us, yes, 'our generation', our swing of things, as best I could. Thank you for the unintended push into film Sir.
I don't really consider myself a historian, I'm more of an obsessive/compulsive- information gatherer--for our stuff.
There are so many, including you , that post here on Warrens site, and I just can't help but get involved.
Thanks for the compliment though.
