Lewis Taylor began his racing career on the drag strip with his daughter Debra laying on the floor board of the car in the back seat because he could not find a baby sitter.

On a dare from his cousin who told Lewis he did not have the nerves or reflexes to race cars or the oval, Lewis would take up the dare and go on to be one of the most respected and talented drivers to race in the Midwest. Lewis won his 1st race and 13 in a row after that.

Within 9 years Lewis would win track championships at Riverside Stadium in 1964, and the modified stock championship at lakeside Speedway in 19666, and the late model championship at Lakeside in 1969.

Racing with the IMCA stock car division Lewis raced with the big names in stock cars at the time like, Ramo Stott, and Ernie Derr. Racing from the Canada line to the Gulf of Mexico Lewis never had the commercial backing that the factory guy's had but he still raced and was very competitive.

Known for his mechanical skills and car building knowledge, fellow racers kept an eye on Lewis's cars and what he was doing off the track, up and coming racers such as Mark Martin worked on his team to see what this quiet man from Kansas was doing behind closed doors.

After an injury that took place at I-70 Speedway where he went over the wall and broke his arm and injured his back Lewis Taylor retired from racing and centered his racing activity to building race cars.

Lewis Taylor won awards for driving, car owner, and being a mechanic, Lewis loved the sport of racing a true C.A.R.B. Hall of Famer. Enjoy.
