For Immediate Release

(Torrance, CA, October 13, 2015)   The California Lightning Sprint Car Series will be at the Ventura Raceway for the final time in 2015 this Saturday night, October 17th.  Joining the CLS on the popular 1/5 of a mile beach side oval will be the VRA Sprint Cars, Senior Sprints, Hobby Stocks, Sport Compacts and Go Karts.  Spectator gates will open at 3:00 PM with racing at 5:30.

Saturday’s race was slated to be the fourth of the year at the track affectionately known as, “The Best Little Dirt Track in America.”  However, the race slated for July 18th was rained out by a freak, mid-summer rain storm.

Kingsburg veteran Doug Nunes won the first CLS race of the year at Ventura in April.  Series point leader Bobby Michnowicz won the other race at the track located on the Ventura County Fairgrounds on June 6.

Michnowicz, who is the defending series champion and who also won the crown in 2012, is closing in on his record tying third CLS title with only Saturday and a November 17th date at the Imperial Valley Raceway on the Imperial County Fairgrounds in El Centro remaining.

While Michnowicz has a commanding 192-point lead in the championship standings heading into Saturday’s race, there are a couple other tight races within the top ten spots in the standings.  Former teammates Alex Grigoreas of Upland and Fort Irwin’s Jeff Dyer are locked into a tight battle for second overall.  Grigoreas, who won the main at the Santa Maria Raceway on May 9th, is 30-points ahead of Dyer going into Ventura.

The other tight battle within the top ten is for sixth place.  James Heling of San Bernardino is 18-points ahead of Chino’s Pat Kelley for that spot.  Kelley is leading the battle for “Rookie of the Year” standings by 47-points over “Rock Star” Jon Robertson of Torrance.
