Brian Brown – Moberly up Next on Friday!

(Bill W) August 26, 2015 – Brian Brown and the Casey’s General Stores/FVP #21 team found some speed in a pair of strong finishes last weekend.  Friday, the team placed fourth with the FVP National Sprint League at a fast Fairmont Raceway in Minnesota.  On Sunday, the led much of the way in Lucas Oil ASCS National Series action before finishing second.  This weekend will see a trio of races with the NSL.  On Friday, the series visits the Randolph County Raceway near Moberly, Missouri, before moving on to the Knoxville Raceway in Iowa Saturday, and Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin Sunday.

Fairmont was definitely a fast track on Friday.  You were fifth quick.

It was good to get back to Fairmont.  We hadn’t been there in a year or so, and it was a place we had success with in the 360.  They had the track the best I’ve seen it.  The previous couple times had laid rubber.  We were off quick time a little, but I felt we made a pretty good lap.  That started the night off on the right foot.

The draw for the Dash didn’t go your way.

We actually drew twice and had to have a redraw there.  Originally, I had the two.  It was looking good, but we had to throw them back in.  Then we ended up with eight.  I think we’ve been in the fourth row 90% of the times we’ve made the redraw with the NSL this year.

You moved up in both the Dash and the feature.

We were able to get to sixth in the Dash.  We were able to go from sixth to fifth in the A.  There really wasn’t a whole lot of passing that night.  We were able to gain fourth when (Craig) Dollansky had a tire issue there.  Overall, we had a pretty decent night.  We felt like we were competitive enough to contend and that was good.

It’s been three years since they’ve raced at the Missouri State Fair Speedway.

I never thought I’d see the day that we’d race sprint cars again in Sedalia after what happened a couple years ago.  It was kind of bittersweet for us.  It’s where we ran our first race, and we had a huge, huge crowd there.  I’m really proud of Casey’s General Stores, Impact Signs, Ditzfeld Transfer, Champion Oil and FVP who were all sponsors of the event.  To race in front of that big a crowd was awesome.

You drove from eighth to third in your heat and that put you in the Dash.

We were able to win the Dash and collect another $1,000 from Impact and Tiger Towing.  That set us up for a good spot in the A.

You got off to a fast start in the feature.

We were able to get the lead and set our own pace.  I really felt like we were good enough to win. We were trapped late behind a couple of lapped cars and let Aaron (Reutzel) get a good run on us. Sometimes it’s better to be running second.  In the lead, you don’t really know what’s behind you. We have no excuses.  We plain got beat.  We’ve won that way, and lost that way.

You had to feel good about the speed you showed last weekend.

It was good to lead a race, and we felt fast at Fairmont.  After the last month and a half, it feels good to have a car capable of winning the race.  It was a good sign for us going forward.

You’ve got another busy week ahead.

We’re looking forward to Friday night at Moberly.  We haven’t been there in a 410, and they’ve worked really hard to reschedule this race and make sure we can race there.  I hope the fans show their support!  It’s always exciting to race at Knoxville, and it will be our first trip to Sun Prairie.
