Sprint cars (and racing in general) returns to the Historic Half Mile in Sedalia on August 23rd with a $12,000 to win ASCS-sanctioned event. The Speedway says it "expects 50 cars". Hmmm.

There will be no no support classes- sprinters only. And folks are MAD.

I'll probably be there anyway. Too many memories for me to stay away.

Granted, $12,000 to win will pull in some cars, but 50 cars? I hope they do, but I think that might be a bit of wishful thinking. I was at Moberly last night. I walked in during a red, during the first heat, so not sure of the total car count. My guess, maybe 18 cars. 

I assume you mean the fender people are mad.

I thought this was converted to a 3/8?

Not that I know of. It would require a lot of $ and I don't think they're gonna spend it. The track was a hay field just a few weeks ago. Shorten it to 3/8, widen the turns... Man oh man.

The conspiracy theorists say that the limited card is to show that racing is no longer viable for the Sate Fair (the Fair used to feature as many as four days of racing) when the crowds don't show up. I find it interesting that the tickets are ALL reserved seating. They didn't even do this for Outlaw shows.

I will be going to Ill. state fair where they like racing.

I'm planning on going to this show. They're promoting it by featuring Sammy Swindell, Brian Brown, Danny Lasoski, and Terry McCarl on the posters. I think they'll have a good car count, but 50 cars might be a stretch. And I'm quite happy about them running only sprint cars as I find mods and late models quite boring. I went to a Sprint Bandits show there back in 2009, they ran the sprint feature first and then the modifieds had there feature. There was multiple restarts at the beginning of the race due to guys spinning out constantly so we left. Some people really love their door bangers, but I'll take a sprint car over them any day. That's why I drive 100 miles to Knoxville every week instead of 35 miles to the local track that runs 7 classes of mods and stock cars.

i guess i'm a little naive, but i'm looking to this race. I grew up going to that track and I selfishly want racing to continue there.I was there at the last race there and it was bad, but i'm glad they are giving racing another chance. I hope the show is successful and leads to more racing there. %0 cars may be pushing it, but they could get upper 30's maybe and that would be good.I do't know who's behind this show,but i hope for everyone it goes well. I'll be there

There is a huge amount of good karma and just great racing in the track at the Missouri State Fair Grounds at Sedalia.

One of the best races I  ever witnessed was Eddie Leavitt driving Max Rogers 49 making a last lap pass on Shane Carson and winning,  as the cars were literly locked together the whole race.

SO many good races seen there on the mile and half mile.

I can remember going in a side show tent and seeing a woman with no head, then getting a nutty bar and heading up in the grandstand to watch Dick Sutcliff, Bill Utz, Ray Lee Goodwin, Jerry Blundy, Ron Perkins, Jan Opperman and the rest battle it out. It doesn't get any better than that.

Maybe a few things have changed over the years but I bet the track and the folks around there still have that good racing Karma.  GO and Enjoy!

One of MY favorites was a USAC race in the 90's, when Hewitt fought 'em all off. The feature started with them going in five wide, and they stayed that way for a long time. Great stuff.

I grew up South of town, and could here them from the house when I couldn't be there (I was mowing grass at the old homeplace a little while ago, and sho 'nuff heard them fire up a few cars for tonights practice that I can't attend. Neat). But I was there a lot. Truthfully, the track sucks. Like a MO version of Williams Grove. It's an engine-killer that easily goes to one groove, especially with winged cars. But once in a while the track stays tacky, and a monster cushion forms. Things get interesting then.

They took out the mile, which hurt, but financially made all the sense in the world. Still sucked.

Then racing dwindled and dwindled until one night a year at the Fair was all we got. Sucked. The weekly programs never worked out- too many politics. The track is now in the middle of suburbia, and folks don't want screamin' engines late at night. Obviously some folks don't know how to live.

Anyway, I also plan to attend, if nothing more than for the Karma. The sounds, sights, and smells of Sprinters on the Historic Half Mile is just to much for me to let pass. I've got too many friends racing there- hell, I even help some with sponsorship on one car. I hope they have 75 cars and fill the stands, 'cuz if they don't I'm afraid the conspiracy theorists will be correct.

Tony Stewart won his first winged sprint car race EVER at this place about a dozen years ago, 360 event....

Yep, passed race long leader Tim Doogs, the original blackjack 21,  coming for the white in lapped traffic, if I recall correctly.  WoW 360 show in support for the Outlaws that night.

It's part of my Tony Stewart Trifecta.  Saw his first race ever in a winged car (Australia) and saw his first ever W of O win at Ohsweken (Canada).  I think Tony is the only other guy with this Trifecta, lol....

Dale, you're right. It's not one of the best tracks, but there have been a lot of outstanding races there. The place definitely is historic, too. Some of my best childhood memories were made there. I'll never forget the Memorial Day races. IMCA sanctioned. Not only the sprint car drivers you mentioned, but the IMCA stock cars would be there, too. Guys like Ramo Stott, Ernie Derr, Butch Hartman, and etc. I got to watch the Dirt Champ cars (on the mile) there with Andretti, the Unser's, and etc. It was a shame when they took out the mile track. It was one of only six dirt miles left. 

I hope it's a success. Sprint car racing, especially in this area, is in need of a shot in the arm. Kansas City and Central Missouri used to be a great sprint car/supermodified area. Anything positive is a plus and severely needed. 

Man those were the days. Use to go there for the Missouri nationals, boy they use to smoke the tires coming down the front strech.

The "Missouri Futurity", and the Missouri Sprint Car Championship; the Dirt Champ cars like MO Sprint Fan said, USAC and IMCA, all GREAT memories.

My first time ever was in '68 or '69, and  a few cars didn't have cages yet.  BEAUTIFUL cars. Some still called sprinters "A" Modifieds (injected). Saw a few Supers run back then too.

I remember in the early 70's someone ran a rear-engine car for a while. I remember after the Champ cars ran someone ran one against the sprint cars for a few events.

Stock cars? You bet, with all the names mentioned above. Real wheel-bangin', in-your-face racin'.

How about midgets? While the Speedway was way too much track for them, they still put on a show. I remember once they ran a Sprint/Midget double header, and my MAN Gene Genetten won BOTH features.

Lots of memories, and I reckon I'll go on the 23rd and try to rack up some more.

Sedalia was the single best Fireworks show I have ever seen, not racing but it was Sedalia and it was spectacular during a race intermission....

I was at practice this past Monday. Only 8 cars including Swindell but it was way cool seeing sprints at our track again. With $12,000 to win I'm sure there will be a bunch of cars on hand. The guy putting on the race has been working the track with local JImmy Smith......And the track looks SWEET. Hope alot of you cats on this site can make it down to Sedville. By the way, my buddies who run the Bud tent across from the grandstand told me the beer will be cheap as they try to empty there inventory!!!!
