Take Two: NCRA Modified Championship Battle This Saturday Night!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Park City, Kansas – October 14, 2014 – After over two inches of rain fell last weekend, nixing the originally scheduled date, the National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products modified division kicks off the first of two straight weekend events at 81 Speedway in Park City this coming Saturday night, October 18, for the annual Mel Hambelton Ford “Fall Classic”

This event will kick off an intense final two events for the tour as four drivers have a shot at the 2014 championship. Currently Dan Powers of Wichita, Kansas hold a slim ten point lead over defending tour champion Marc Hurd. Nebraska veteran Jon Thompson is just forty points out of the lead while Kirby Robe is just 155 points out.

Rounding out the top ten in the 2014 NCRA point standings are; Jason McGehee, Josh Lanterman, Chris Pitts, Justin Moler, Cuyler Calkin and Don Hodge. Pitts also has a slim 16 point advantage over Calkin in the tours rookie of the year standings.

Powers comes into this weekend on a roll as he has a two race win streak on the tour, winning at the last event held back in August at Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo, Texas and claiming his first ever Hutchinson Grand Nationals, atop the Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson, Kansas.

Former tour-time tour champion Brian Franz and Thomas Tillison, Jr. both have two feature victories a piece with Hurd and Thompson having also claimed victories.

As mentioned, this will be the first of two consecutive Saturday night events for the tour, both at 81 Speedway. The finale is set for next Saturday night, October 25, where the 2014 championship will be decided.

Pit gates this Saturday night for the annual Mel Hambelton Ford “Fall Classic” open at 5:00 PM with racing slated for a 7:00 PM start time. 81 Speedway is located north of Wichita on I-135 to exit 16, then .7 mile west on 77th St. in Park City.
