RYAN BERNAL CHARGES TO MARYSVILLE RACEWAY PARK VICTORY
By Lance Jennings

MARYSVILLE, CA – SEPTEMBER 22, 2014... Powering past Adam Brenton on lap nineteen, Hollister’s Ryan Bernal won the USAC Western Classic Sprint Car debut at Marysville Raceway Park. For Bernal, the $1,500 victory was his fourth win of the campaign as the schedule comes to a close at Petaluma on October 4th. Max Adams, Scott Hall, Mark Tabor Jr., and Brenton chased the defending champion to the checkered flags.

Racing Mike Phulps’ #56 Mandarin Tri-L Ranch / Core Power ART, Ryan Bernal earned his first Keizer Wheels / Racing Optics “Hard Charger / Best Passing Job” honors by scoring the main event win from eighth. Taking one qualifying lap at the end of the order, Ryan was sixth quick out of the fourteen racers at MRP and won the 10-lap Deist Safety Heat Race #2. Bernal clinched the series championship at Marysville and heads to Petaluma with a 95-point advantage on the strength of two Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Awards, two heat race victories, six top-10 finishes, and 54 feature laps led.

Max Adams of Loomis had his best finish of the season by charging from sixth to second at Marysville Raceway Park. Piloting the family owned #5X ART Speed Equipment / Motowear International ART, Adams qualified second overall and finished second to Bernal in his heat race. As this writing goes to press, Max is seventeenth in points with two top-10 finishes on the year.

Roseville’s Scott Hall scored third in the 30-lap feature after starting fourth. Driving John & Lily Campanile’s #77J Konnected Clothing / Elk Grove Ford Spike, Hall was fourth fast in time trials and placed third in his heat race. Scott heads to the October 4th finale ranked ninth in the standings with two top-10 finishes in the campaign.

Mark Tabor Jr. of Reno, Nevada ran fourth in his first start with the USAC Western Classic Sprints. Racing his #38N Tabor Construction / Marchelle’s Bridal Boutique ART, Tabor qualified eighth overall and was fourth in his heat race. After a successful night, the Marysville winged 360 driver sits twenty-fourth in the point chase.

Starting on the pole position, Browns Valley’s Adam Brenton ran fifth in the Marysville feature. Piloting his #28 Morris Cycle Supply / Brian Seim Designs ART, Brenton led the first five laps before Austin Liggett took command. Adam regained the lead after a caution for Liggett on lap nine and held to top spot until Bernal’s pass on lap nineteen. Now twenty-fifth in points, Brenton was ninth quick in time trials and placed second to Liggett in his heat race in his first Western Classic start.

Josh Vieira of Marysville earned his first Woodland Auto Display Fast Time Award and set a new track record in the process. Driving the family owned #3V Borello Race Engines / R.D. Johnson Construction ART, Vieira scored seventh in his heat race after an early flip. The Wingless Spec Sprint regular rebounded to take eighth in the main event and is now twenty-eighth in the standings.

Tracy’s Austin Liggett raced to victory in the 10-lap Extreme Mufflers Heat Race #1. Racing the family owned #83 Excel Environmental Services / Home Connections Inc. Spike, Liggett qualified third and led three laps of the feature before an early exit resulted in an eleventh place finish. To date, Austin is sixth in points with three heat race victories, three top-10 finishes, and 11 feature laps led.
