We are thinking of putting a 305 car together. Curious what kinda gear range to run on 1/2 mile's and 1/4 mile tracks with these engines.

Thanks

If I was doing it i would start with a 5:56 in 1/2 mile and a 6:20 in quarter mile. Track size varies quite a bit from advertised size. Go by tach. as to what you want to run for rpm.

I run a 360 sprint car and am going to run on a half mile for the first time. My question is what gearing should i run? the motor produces 700hp, has a 4.86 quick change, and the track has little if any banking to it. This is my second season in the car and am still feeling everything out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Shape of track is important.  Surface condition. Top, bottom runner. 5.30's to 5.60 should get you thru most conditions. Take budget into consideration also. How hard do you want to turn the motor.

no two half miles are the same.   Long straightaways and tight corners?   sweeping corners?  big differences in teh track can make gear ratio changes as well.

I would try to talk to local competitors at the track you'll be running.   Most guys are willing to give a hand until you start beating them on the track.

Even what many might consider as un-approachable are generally giving of their time.   Lasoski has helps the Phillips boys at Knoxville the past 2-3 years and in-turn they have helped him out by crewing on his car some in the off-season.  I've seen McCarl help guys get up to speed, same goes for pretty much anyone running locally in the midwest.

Having you on the track and being too slow, out of control or sporadic does then zero good.  Until you start beating them they will more than likely help you out with advice or steer you in the right direction on bar and shock changes too.
