Reminder: UMSS Non-wing Series Meeting January 8

By: Greg Parent, UMSS Media Director
Stillwater, MN (1-1-11)

With interest continuing to exceed initial expectations, the Upper Midwest Sprintcar Series (UMSS) is looking forward to hosting the informational meeting scheduled for their new non-winged sprint car series. A reminder to all interested parties that the meeting will take place at Joe Senser's Sports Bar & Grill in Roseville, MN on Saturday, January 8, 2011 starting at 11:00 AM. UMSS co-founders Joe Kouba and Ron Bernhagen will be on hand along with several other series officials and sprint car supporters to discuss plans for the new non-winged series along with details regarding the engine package. Travis Jehlicka of Mora Motorworks has reported that the engine he built will be on the dyno on January 1. Travis should have dyno numbers available at the January 8 meeting, as he plans to be on hand to discuss the engine package and help field questions.

Since announcing plans for the new series, UMSS officials along with Travis Jehlicka have received numerous inquiries. Ron Bernhagen reported, "There are several cars being purchased or currently being built for the new series. I truly believe we are going to start with more cars than I had initially expected, and as the season progresses some additional cars should be ready to participate." Ron is busy putting together race dates for the new series with local area tracks expressing a real interest in hosting a new form of motorsports that has not been part of any weekly programs in the area for several decades. Anyone interested in learning more about this exciting form of racing and its long-awaited return to several area race tracks via the UMSS are encouraged to attend the informational meeting on January 8. Joe Senser's Sports Bar & Grill is the same place where the UMSS held its two October meetings and is conveniently located near the junction of Highway 36 and I-35W in Roseville.

Travis Jehlicka, owner of Mora Motorworks and the first series sponsor, also wants to remind potential participants that his offer of a $500 discount off the purchase of a UMSS non-winged sprint car engine from Mora Motorworks is valid until January 15, 2011. Travis stated, "I have received a number of inquiries already, and this motor is economically feasible for most competitors. In order to continue to help promote the new series, I am pleased to extend this offer to those interested in purchasing an engine." This offer applies only to the UMSS engine package for the non-winged series and does not apply to any other offers or any other racing divisions served by Mora Motorworks. It is strictly for the UMSS. Contact Travis Jehlicka at (320) 225-0075 or visit them on the web at www.moramotorworks.com for more information.

Sprint car fans are encouraged to continue to send in entries in the "Name the Series Contest" that was announced in the original press release. Fans can submit entries by emailing [email protected] or by calling him at 612-363-5302. Entries can also be emailed to UMSS Media Director Greg Parent at [email protected] or by contacting UMSS Marketing Director and coordinator of the non-winged series Mark Daniels at 612-839-8311. The winner of the contest will earn a prize package with pit pass, race tickets, concessions and other items worth $75-$100. GRP has already put up a $50 cash prize to the winner to kick things off. The deadline for submitting entries for the contest to name the non-winged sprint car series is January 20, 2011 at midnight. Several very good suggestions have been received already. More information on the new series will be released following the January 8 meeting.
