Just north of Nickerson, KS on the Nickerson Road blacktop about one mile from town off to the east-side of the road. Setting next to a couple of regular cars in a row is what appears to be a red/white 55 maybe 56 Chevy stock car. This car is setting on the east-side of the row and is not easily seen. From ground level in a car it might not be noticeable. But in my big truck it can be seen. My guess is this might be where Kenny Burgess lives. Kenny used to run a Derby(?) service station 1 mile south (from where the car is now) on the curve leading into town. The stations is completely gone now days. I believe Kenny ran it as a hobby stock #46?? Don't know if it might not have more history than just Kenny's car, Who Knows?
I know its not an open wheel car but what is to stop someone from restoring a stock car. Of course the vintage guys won't let the stock cars run with them, so I guess you would just do it to display it at shows.
Some of my best memories were the 55/56/57 Chevy and Ford days. Friday, Salina, Hutchinson Saturday, and many of Sunday nights at Great Bend. My first road trip was in my 63 Dodge convertible to Great Bend. I believe it rain all the way home.
Yellow is my favorite color and the #81 55 Chevy of Bill Mills always stands out as a favorite. How about that red white and blue one of #0 Mel Potts. Those rear seater's of Steve Dunsworth that Henry and Dick drove. The #26 painted in Coca Cola colors.
