I agree.  He is missing a mechanic that knows how to set him up.  There are kings makers and then there are kings.

Let's go Sprint Car Racing!

Knoxville - Best Track In the USA!
Eldora - 2nd Best Track in the USA!

The expectation was that they would get things figured out with the motor and be back up front challenging for titles.  It hasn't worked out as planned.  Donny is in a unique position as a business owner whereas for most driving is their sole source of income.  He is over fourty around the same age as my middle daughter and we watched him in a 360 so we are Schatz fans.  He likes to play around with the Late Model and there are a lot of high paying races in the upper Midwest.  That might be his "retirement" plan.  Whatever he does, keep searching for speed with the Ford, make a change with the Sprint team or something else wouldn't deter us from following him.  Living in this part of the country pretty much guarantees you'll be a Schatz fan.

I'm a Ford guy in "real life", but Schatz started downhill when he went with "Ford style" engine

I don't think he's old enough for that to be a factor... he should give the "Chevy style" another chance & see what happens. Seems to be lacking in top end speed... RPMs?

They say it has a ton of horsepower. Drivability is what they seem to  be chasing.

You are also forgetting that at the same time Ricky got sick.  He was working on the Ford development engine.

Then when Ricky was healthy Donny didn't want anything to do with him.  That is when he started going downhill.  Remember the last couple of years?  He could pull Ricky off the shelf and get going better.  Last year when Kerry started running the 14 car, he was always finishing in front of the 15.  Ricky and Madsen meshed.  They meshed just like Schatz and Ricky.   Then Kerry wrecked a lot and the 14 is no longer.  Not saying that is the reason they parked the 14.

I will say it again there are king makers and then there are kings.  But there is only one King - Steve Kinser of sprint car racing!

Schatz is missing his Posse pixie dust. Either needs a Posse bred crew chief, posse engine builder, something. Maybe it is time for TSR/FORD to call Charlie Garrett. Plus he needs to take a break from his influencer jet and live the Outlaw life like the rest of the gypsies.

He runs a business up in Fargo and I hardly think that having a pilot's license would affect his racing.  To the contrary, I have a lot of respect for pilots after launching them off a carrier back in the 70's.

There is a chance TS  is paying Donny money to retain him, not just part of purse.  I am sure not running up front is hard on his pride.

He started losing his dominance before the Ford engine...

Charlie Garrett builds a good engine but he can't even keep up with the work he has. There have been engines at his place for a over a year that haven't been repaired. so calling him wouldn't help unfortunately

Age makes a difference. There are several younger WOO regulars that will risk it for the bisquit which has not been his style at this point. Things clicked when Ricky was crewcheif but if thats the reason Rico should be winning. I wouldnt be at all surprised to see them pull of a big win on the  1/2 mile tracks but bullrings like Hussets is for the win it or wear it young guns like Sheldon. When Larson is able to compete it changes the equation as He is capable to win any time as points arent important and show up money doesnt make a difference. I still remember Schatz winning the Nationals from deep in the field !

Not sure why anybodys suprised. Ya changed engine manufacturers and broke up a Championship team. Donny got fucked while on top of the mountain. And continues to handle it with class.  If Ford never happens and Ricky W never leaves, Schatz has 2 or 3 more Championships and Sweet has 2 or 3 less.

Very simple, he's only been running the Ford full time a couple of years now.    As of 2015 he had won Knoxville 9 out of the last 10.   Then over the next three Nationals he only won once.   Brad first season championship was 2019.   All of that happened before Donny was running Ford.

He was born in August 1977, same month as our middle daughter which makes them both 44.  When drivers get to that age they are still fit enough to drive at a high level.  The reflexes are pretty good until we're past 50.  The thing that changes is they have family and responsibilities so they might think twice about where they put the car.  Eighteen year old drivers are fearless.  We were all bullet proof at that age.  I don't really predict the cause or outcome, I just watch things unfold.

I just saw a notice on social that Danny Schatz passed away.  I had forgotten that he was sick and my thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

Thanks, that makes sense

When did he start with the "Ford"?.... I thought he's been running it 3 years
