GRANT SEXTON GETS A WIN AND A 2ND PLACE FINISH AT LIGHTNING SPRINT NATIONALS!

(Lakeside, CA, October 9, 2019) Someone let the bear get out of the cage and that bear, 15-year-old Grant Sexton, has mauled the competition for three straight races including last week when he won and placed second in the main events in the POWRi Lightning Sprint Car Nationals at Missouri’s Lake Ozark Speedway.

Grant, his father Brent and the Lakeside, California based Sexton/Gatlin Racing crew made their first trip to the “Show Me State” with high expectations.  However, Grant far exceeded those hopes or anything the team could have come up with in its wildest dreams. Fresh off a win at the Barona wingless race two weeks earlier, the high school student shocked everyone when he bested a stellar field of 43-cars from 11 different states and Canada for his second win in a row in the Friday portion of the Nationals.

In the Friday main event, Grant started third with Brent coming from ninth.  Grant ran second before moving into the lead with three laps to go.  He kept his eye-catching number three up front for the victory on the 1/3 of a mile semi-banked clay oval.  Proud father Brent finished three spots behind his youngest offspring in fourth.

Saturday’s finale saw the competitors not only having to battle with each other but also Mother Nature.  Showers interrupted the show and caused a delay, but they did little to faze young Grant Sexton.  The teen sensation proved the previous night’s victory was no fluke by being the top scorer in Saturday’s preliminaries and earning the coveted pole position for the 25-lap main event.

While things were once again working well for Grant, the same could not be said for Brent.  The veteran driver was leading his qualifier and headed for an outside front row starting spot with his son when disaster struck in the form of a blown engine.  That not only put Brent out for that qualifier, but also for the main event.

When the green flew to start the 25-lapper, Grant burst into the lead.  He proceeded to fight off the persistent challenge of his pursuers for the first 22-laps of the race before slipping back to second.  He stayed in the second-place spot for the remainder of the race.  Overall, he had the best finishing percentage (1.50) of any of the drivers in the two main events for the weekend.

S.G.R. and red-hot Grant Sexton get the next two weekends off before returning to action on October 26th at the Ventura Raceway.
