Sands Chevrolet USAC SouthWest Sprint Car Series

USAC SOUTHWEST & USAC/CRA SPRINTS CLASH AT THE PAS SATURDAY

JULY 10, 2019... After a break in the schedule, the Sands Chevrolet USAC SouthWest Sprint Cars will travel to Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday, July 13th. Promoted by Don Kazarian, the ninth point race is a co-sanctioned grudge event with the AMSOIL USAC/CRA Sprints and the first of five appearances at the Lake Perris Fairgrounds. The action packed card will also showcase the PAS Senior Sprint Cars and Young Gun Sprint Cars. Located in Perris, California, the spectator gates at "America's Premier Dirt Track" will open at 5:00pm and racing is scheduled for 7:00pm. At intermission, there will be a candy giveaway for kids and a meet and greet with the fans on the front straightaway. - USAC BONUS / Any racer who enters every event for both the Sands Chevrolet USAC SouthWest and AMSOIL USAC/CRA Sprint Car schedules will have their entry fees reimbursed at the end of the year.

Since October 31, 2013, Perris Auto Speedway has hosted two Sands Chevrolet USAC SouthWest Sprint Car events. Mike Spencer and C.J. Leary scored victories at the “360 Oval Nationals” that were co-sanctioned with the USAC West Coast Sprints. Leary set the 1-lap track record of 16.416 on November 6, 2014.

Heading to the Saturday’s race, Brody Roa (Garden Grove, CA) holds a 53-point lead over the competition. Piloting the BR Performance #91R HD Industries / Burris Racing Maxim, Roa led the first 26 laps of the June 8th “Canyon Speedway Park Birthday Bash” before finishing second to Mike Martin. At press time, the point leader has one feature win, one Beaver Stripes Fast Time Award, three heat race victories, two Saldana Racing Products Hard Charger Awards, eight top-10 finishes, and 64 feature laps led on the season. Also leading the USAC/CRA points, Brody will be looking to continue his championship bid with a win at Perris Auto Speedway.

R.J. Johnson (Laveen, AZ) ranks second in the championship point chase. Driving the Bobby Martin Racing #51 Martin Family Auto Museum / Pro Flyer Race Engines Sherman, Johnson earned the June 8th hard charger award with a fifth place run from ninth. To date, the five-time USAC SouthWest Champion has posted one feature win, three heat race victories, one Saldana Racing Products Hard Charger Award, seven top-10 finishes, and 26 feature laps led to his credit. R.J. is currently seventh in USAC/CRA points and will have his sights on his fifty-seventh USAC SouthWest victory.

Stevie Sussex (Tempe, AZ) is third in the USAC SouthWest point standings. Racing Robbie and Gaye Allen’s #12 ABC Body Shop / PPG Automotive Finishes Maxim, Sussex charged to a third place finish at the “CSP Birthday Bash.” At press time, the 2017 USAC National Sprint Car Rookie of the Year has one feature win, one heat race victory, seven top-10 finishes and 32 feature laps led in the campaign. At Perris, Stevie will be looking to claim his fourteenth career win.

“Chargin” Charles Davis Jr. (Buckeye, AZ) sits fourth in the chase for the championship. Piloting his #50 RSS Industries / MP Environmental RSS, Davis was the fast qualifier and scored third at Canyon Speedway Park. To date, the defending champion has one Beaver Stripes Fast Time Award, four heat race victories, five top-10 finishes, and 11 feature laps led on the season. “Chargin” Charles has thirty career SouthWest wins and will have his sights on his first victory of 2019. 

“The Magic Man” Mike Martin (Yuma, AZ) ranks fifth in the USAC SouthWest point chase. Driving his #16 Naquin Precision Earth Moving / American FlowTech Maxim, Martin raced to victory at the June 8th “CSP Birthday Bash.” At press time, the 2012 “Hall of Fame Classic” Winner has one feature win, one heat race victory, one Saldana Racing Products Hard Charger Award, six top-10 finishes, and 4 feature laps led on the year. “The Magic Man” will be looking to earn his seventh series win this Saturday night.

Currently ranked nineteenth in points, Ryan Cully (Alger, WA) leads the chase for Rookie of the Year honors. Stephen Sanchez (Flagstaff, AZ), Eddie Tafoya Jr. (Chino Hills, CA), and Jeff Dyer (Bermuda Dunes, CA) are also in contention. 

Among the other drivers expected to be in action are “The Real American” Matt Rossi, Matt Lundy, Jake Swanson, Michael Curtis, Chris Bonneau, Jonas Reynolds, “The Big Game Hunter” Austin Williams, “The Demon” Damion Gardner, Tyler Most, Kyle Shipley and more.

Brody Roa (Garden Grove, CA) also leads a strong contingent with the AMSOIL USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series. “The Demon” Damion Gardner, “The Big Game Hunter” Austin Williams, Jake Swanson, Tommy “Thunder” Malcolm, Chris Gansen, R.J. Johnson, Matt McCarthy, “The Cadillac” Cody Williams, and Richard Vander Weerd round out the top-10 drivers.
