BRODY ROA FINISHES USAC/CRA SEASON – TURKEY NIGHT GRAND PRIX NEXT!
(Cypress, CA, November 20, 2018) Garden Grove, California Sprint Car racer Brody Roa wrapped up the USAC/CRA portion of his 2018 racing season at the 23rd Annual Oval Nationals at Perris Auto Speedway. This Wednesday and Thursday, Roa will put the wraps on the entire year when he competes in the 78th running of the Turkey Night Grand Prix at the Ventura Raceway.
The three-day Oval Nationals in Perris matched the cream of the crop from the Midwest-based USAC National Sprint Car Series and the best of the west’s USAC/CRA Series. On the first night, 42-cars signed into the pit area and Roa, 27, timed in 10th fastest in qualifying with a lap of 16.820. He followed that up with a third-place finish in his ten-lap heat race. For the main, he started in the ninth spot and moved forward for his best finish of the three nights when he placed seventh.
The second night at the wind-swept track started bright enough for Roa who put down a lap of 17.069 which was good enough for the ninth spot in the 41-car field. Another third-place finish in his heat locked him into the main event where he was again starting in the ninth position.
Unfortunately, chaos bit the BR Performance team on the first lap of the main. A tangle in front of Roa happened coming off turn four. Roa was tagged from behind from cars also trying to sort their way through the mess and he subsequently ended up flipping. Thankfully, he and all the other drivers emerged unhurt.
The crew quickly got the car back to the work area for repairs. They were helped by other CRA and National teams and the thrash was on. They got everything they could find repaired and ready to go. However, when they tried to turn the car around for the restart, it was found to have a broken steering gear and it was done for the night. In an amazing testimony to the driver and the entire team, in 38 sprint car starts for the year, it is the only race the bright green #91R did not finish!
For the final USAC/CRA race of the year, Roa had to go to his backup car after the tangle the previous night. The affable star timed in 16th quickest in the field with a lap of 17.158. He followed that up with a second-place finish in his heat race. He began the main event outside the fifth row in 10-spot and closed his CRA year by placing ninth.
As the dust has settled on the 2018 campaign, Roa and the #91R team have a lot to be proud of. A close second place finish in the standings. In 23 USAC/CRA races they had three wins, 17 top fives, and 21 top tens. They finished 22 of the 23 main events they started in the series.
In addition to three triumphs in USAC/CRA competition, the team took home the winner’s trophy two of the four times it started in the USAC West Coast Series. Also, Roa won the main event at Ventura in his only VRA appearance of the year.
Roa’s season will come to an end this Wednesday and Thursday in the sprint car portion of the Turkey Night Grand Prix at Ventura.
