ROUND #2 OF CLS VS BCRA “CIVIL WAR SERIES” SATURDAY AT SANTA MARIA!
(Torrance, CA, July 16) The California Lightning Sprint Car Series will hit the road this Saturday night, July 21st, for round #2 of the “Civil War Series” vs the Bay Cities Racing Association at the Santa Maria Raceway. The race will be the CLS only appearance at Santa Maria in 2018.
Round #1 of the annual series took place on June 16th at the Bakersfield Speedway and Ventura’s Bruce Douglass won the main event over Lomita’s Bobby Michnowicz and Dan Hillberg of Placentia. CLS drivers came away from the opener with the first seven spots in the point standings and also claimed eight of the top ten spots. Going into Saturday, Michnowicz, a 5-time CLS champion, leads Douglass by two-points in the four-race mini-series. The top-ranked BCRA driver is Sacramento’s Scott Kinney who is ranked eighth.
After Saturday’s race, the “Civil War Series” will be off until its final two races at the Placerville Speedway on September 21st and 22nd.
As well as paying points in the “Civil War Series,” Saturday’s race will also be the eighth race in the season-long California Lightning Sprint Car Series championship. Heading into Saturday, 2010 series champion Jarrett Kramer of Sun Valley has a 106-point lead over teenager Aiden Lange of Lakewood. Another teenager, Dominic Del Monte of Gardena, is third and only trails Lange by 20-points. Two-time CLS champ Brent Sexton of Lakeside is fourth and Camarillo’s Cody Nigh is fifth.
Through the first seven races of the campaign, Lange is the only driver with more than one win and he has three. Douglass, Michnowicz, Kramer and Nigh have one win each.
In addition to the CLS, Saturday’s race card will include WRS Winged Sprint Cars, Pro Stocks, Sport Mods, American Stocks, NMRA ¾ Midgets, SM Dwarf Cars and Mini Dwarfs.
Fans wishing to attend Saturday’s race can find the Santa Maria Raceway at 1900 Hutton Road in Nipomo (93444). The track website is at https://santamariaraceway.com/ and the phone number for information is (310) 493-4900.
