CBS Sports Network.   I watched most of it.   Too bad that 2 hours of it was late models.   Impressive watching Christopher Bell's run from 20th to 2nd in the Kings Royal.   Goodness, I wonder how hard it is to watch the racing when you're at Eldora if it's always that dusty?

Racing at Eldora is dusty but i guess caught wind right because it wasn't bad where i was sitting. Was anybody there the night the wheel cover came off and cut the poor lady. She was a long ways from the track but those babies fly a long ways.So glad it didn't hit the child playing beside her.

Better than nothing! I recorded it & skipped the Late Models

How about Schatz getting all choked up & teary eyed during interview after Kings Royal?  Lets the Schatz haters see how human he really is.... I root against him too, but have nothing but respect for the guy

Bell's run from 20th to 2nd... yea, but trouble with TV or video is you can only watch what the cameraman decides to focus on, so you don't see battles back in the pack. Live, you can pick out which drivers to follow, which duels to watch.

A few years back i bought a video of Fast Freddy beating the Outlaws from back row at WG (2009?) You never even saw him until he was in contention, like maybe 3rd or 4th

Yes, that was a good interview.    I like Schatz myself and have a tremendous amount of respect for him.   I don't think the sport has ever seen a driver this great who can not only dominate but also is the cleanest driver out there.   You don't see him out there running over people or hitting them and moving them out of the way.

I also liked his interview after losing the 2016 Knoxville Nationals to Jason Johnson.  He had a reason to be upset with JJ and noted that he had won 9 Nationals without driving anyone that way, but then turned around and said that he was proud of JJ for winning it.    Just shows that Schatz is a class act on the track and behind the mic too.

Yeah, I'm typically not that big a fan of TV racing.   No sensation of speed, you don't get to hear and feel the 900 HP engines, and way too many interviews.   I don't mind watching shows like this that are taped in advance so I can fast forward through interviews and commercials.

I taped it and really enjoy any coverage they get.The dust made it harder to telecast.Schatz even though not winning the finale showed why He is on top with his clean driving style and smoothness. The level of competition is getting closer with several cars able to win if things fall just right. To see that many non outlaws toward the front shows that many regions have racers capable just chose to run a schedule that allows them to pick and choose and their bottom line is probably about the same maybe better.THe Late Models put on a good show and seem to get a lot more coverage than the WOO sprints.Sprint car racing has too much down time live coverage but still my favorite.

Brad Doty's comments just continued to fuel the debat that has been going on for the last few years here on Hoseheads.

He said: (and I paraphrase) "the competition was not as good back when I was running so it was a lot easier to win a race back then than it is now"

I still don't see how anyone can argue the racing was better in 1985 than 2017.  Each to their own.  JMO

He didn't exactly say the racing was better in 1985.   He said there fewer cars capable of winning back then.    In the eighties you had Steve, Doug, and Sammy.   They were each great but the mid pack cars were not nearly as fast as them.   These cars today and more equal and those lapped cars are nearly as fast as the front runners sometimes.    Steve and Sammy didn't have to deal with that as much.   And these days there are more cars capable of winning a WoO event, including drivers from the outside like Madsen and Brown.    To that end, I completely agree with Brad.

Sorry---I worded that poorly.

I was agreeing with Brad.  He stated the he thought the racing was tighter and races are harder to win TODAY.  When I said I don't know how anyone can say the racing was better in 1985, I wasn't referring to Brad.

Gotcha.   That would be partially my boneheaded interpretation of what you said too!
