BRODY ROA SCORES BIGGEST WIN OF HIS CAREER!
(Buena Park, CA, November 15, 2017) Brody Roa scored the biggest win of his career last Friday night when he won his first ever USAC National Sprint Car main over a tough field in the “Evelyn Pratt Main Event” at the 22nd annual Oval Nationals at Perris Auto Speedway. In addition to his Friday night triumph, the 26-year-old finished third on Thursday and sixth on Saturday making him the highest finishing USAC/CRA driver all three nights.
The Oval Nationals features both the USAC National Sprint Cars from the Midwest and the west coast’s USAC/CRA Sprint Cars. It is thus considered the strongest field of the year in the nation’s most prestigious non-wing sprint car race. That magnified Roa’s performance as he led every lap and won by a half-straightaway on Friday.
After qualifying ninth fastest in the star-studded field, Roa finished fourth in his 10-lap heat and transferred straight into the 30-lap main event. He started the main event off the pole and that can be a bad omen at Perris Auto Speedway. Notoriously over the last decade, very few cars have won a PAS main event from the pole. After exchanging the lead back and forth on the first lap, Roa settled in to the lead before the lap was over and was never headed the rest of the way.
By the time the race was four-laps old, Roa had nearly a half-straightaway advantage. However, time and time again in the race, the lead would be wiped out by yellow flags. That did not matter! Every single time when the green would come back out, the competition would only stay close for a lap or two before the Garden Grove, California veteran would pull away. His only scare came on a lap-21 restart when he banged the cushion in turn three and bicycled the car. He quickly gathered it back in and went on his merry way. When the Kevin Winters’ checkered flag ended the 30-lapper, Roa was far clear of the competition and $5,000.00 richer.
On the slowdown lap, the excited driver had his left hand out of the car patting it like it was a Kentucky Derby winning horse.
“I can’t believe I just won a National Sprint Car race,” the excited driver told the crowd after climbing out of his green racecar. ”I don’t know what to say. This is the coolest thing I have done in my racing career so far. I did not like seeing all of those yellows and reds. I was waiting for a slider on a restart and I kept seeing Chad’s (Boespflug) nose a few times. I cannot say enough about this team. We are clicking right now and this thing runs like a banshee. We are going to celebrate a bit tonight, but not too much because we have got to get the job done tomorrow.”
The previous night, five days after being the highest finishing USAC/CRA regular with a sixth place at the “Western World Championships” at the Arizona Speedway, Roa got his “Oval Nationals” off to a fine start with a third place finish in the 30-lap main. That podium finish came after qualifying fourth fast in the 43-car field and finishing fourth in his heat race. Last Saturday night, Roa did not have to qualify as he had enough points to go directly into the main event. He finished sixth in the six-lap “Super Six Dash” and again was the highest finishing CRA regular when he placed sixth in the championship main.
In 32 sprint cars starts thus far in 2017, Roa has recorded 25 top-10 finishes, 14 top-5’s, 8 top-3’s and he has 2 wins.
Thanks to HD Industries, Roa has two nights of racing left in 2017. The prestigious running of the 77th Turkey Night Grand Prix at the Ventura Raceway on Wednesday, November 22nd and Thanksgiving Night, Thursday, November 23rd. He will be driving the #91R in the sprint car portion of the show, but is still looking for a ride in the midget segment of the program. Any team with interest in contacting Roa with a midget ride and thus becoming eligible for the $50,000.00 bonus (if a driver wins both main events), can contact the fast-rising racing star by calling 714-932-7994.
As always, the team will have its good-looking shirts in the pits at Ventura. Cost is $20.00. For those who cannot attend, the shirts are available by mail for $20.00 plus $7.00 shipping in the USA (foreign countries contact for shipping costs).
