Planning to take a trip to the east coast next summer. Perhaps a week long. Suggestions? If you had an open week in July or August (I teach high school), where would you go?

A quick list of thoughts...

  • Have family in western PA (Marion Center, PA), so Lernervile is likely stop.
  • Love the 410 sprint cars when the WOO comes through my area here in the great northwest (Skagit, WA).
  • Really need to limit this to a week in July or August, but farily open inside that window.

Thoughts? What would a sprint car junkie do? Pennsylvania Speedweek? Williams Grove and Port Royal? Eldora? Knoxville? Whatcha got?

I would fly into St Louis on August 3, go to a Pevely For the double Ironman 55 shows, and then drive or fly up to Des Moines (around a 5 hr drive) and spend the week in Iowa for the Knoxville Nationals.

thats my favorite week of the year by far. You could also just fly into Iowa and enjoy the 360 Nationals the weekend before the 410 Nationals.

A lot of people like the Kings Royal week, which starts at Attica for the Doty and ends with 3 days of the Kings Royal. Or you can come for the Kings Royal and drive east to Lernerville for the Silver Cup and even more east for the Outlaws at Williams Grove.

PA speedweek was a lot of fun last year with Larson joining the festivities early in the week. To me, it’s a limited field and tracks I’m very familiar with, but if you like the posse, that’s a good ticket.

I didn’t see the Lernerville reference in your post, if you have family near there, I would do the Kings Royal to Lernerville to the Grove option.

The dates for that trip will likely be July 12-14 for Kings Royal at Eldora and July 17 for the Lernerville Silver Cup.

This is a good week to get to see three different styles of tracks and good car counts at every one. We hit Kings Royal, Don Martin Memorial at Lernerville, and then Williams Grove this year and it was an awesome week and a half.

To mix it up a little:

USAC Indiana Speedweek

Thanks for what you do as a teacher!

THIS x100.  If you want to extend if further do the Doty Classic > King's Royal Weekend > Lville Silver Cup > WG Summer Nats.  That's about as quality of a "10 Day" Racing trip as you can get.  4 Top Tier Races at 4 top Tracks in the area.  I've wanted to do this trip myself for years (I'm based in Western PA - my company actually have some family farmers in Marion Center - cool!).  If you hit up Lville for Silver Cup or another race (sounds like you will) post here.  Beer or iced tea on me wink

The week of the Kings Royal is great with the Doty on Tuesday. You can stay in Lima and not drive to far from either track. The HOJO in Lima is a pretty good place and there will be several teams staying there.  Also, if you don't mind driving then Ohio Speedweek is a great week of racing. Speedweek always pulls tons of cars, usually 40 a night along with great names like Larson, Rico and Dietrich.

Camp at Eldora all week. They have buses that will take you to the Doty on Tuesday, party at the track Wednesday, then 3 days of sprint car racing at the Big E!!

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. This is currently the leader in the clubhouse. Eldora, Lernerville, and Williams Grove sounds tough to beat. 5 WOO races in 9 nights. I could deal with that.

Indiana Sprint Week is being moved toward the end of July I believe.

Another option is the Lou Blaney Memorial at Sharon Speedway on Saturday before the King's Royal, then Attica and the King's Royal.

The two best WoO races I've seen the last two years have been Lawrenceburg and Attica both years FWIW.

Plus this affords you some family time.  You can stay with fam Sunday after KR through Lville and before you head to WG.  Win-win.  Sprint cars + family time in b-e-a-utiful Indiana County (I mean that sincerely).

Simple really. Smile  Visit the east coast via the internet and Google Earth. Stay in touch with the relatives using Facetime. (isn't technology great?!)  August in Iowa......the Knoxville Nationals! Just ask anybody that's been there.

Color me jaded but I've had enough of winged racing in PA ( I'm a south central PA resident). If you have never been here speedweek is a good call, lots of racing with many other things to do during the non racing times. The EMMR is a must see if you are near the area, Gettysburg battlefield, Hershey park, just too much to list. As someone posted, Knoxville is a pretty cool place. Lots of tracks and racing in Illinois and Indiana and Ohio. I would consider waiting to make plans until 2018 track schedules are posted. I hope you enjoy your racing vacation where ever you decide to go.

Been to all the great tracks around the country and nothing compares to Knoxville. Not only great racing but the people, track and everything else is just about racing. People go to Knoxville for the racing, not to get drunk.

This past summer I caught 3 Pa. Speedweek races (all won by Larson!) & first 3 races of Indiana Sprintweek ( I like wingless, actually only saw 2 Indiana races because of rainout at Gas City) Fortunately I had a friend in Ohio to hang out with midweek (with bass pond!)

Ohio Speedweek sounds good too, never made it yet.
Wait until schedules come out & you should have a great time!

Take your Christmas Break and go a little early than you planned and head over to Australia.  Lots of races with Yanks and all the best Aussie guys there during this time as well.  A geography lesson on top of the many other things you will learn, some of them  you might even remember, lol.  A trip of a lifetime and one you will return for, believe me......

Well, were it me I would definitely do the AU WSS Speedweek, that is at the very top of my bucket list as a Central PA resident. However, I know you are not from here, and if you are not from here and want to get a good taste of Sprint Car racing on the East Coast I would highly recommend PA Speedweek. The field is always very interesting, with guys like James McFadden, Jordan Brazier, Sammy Walsh, Sean Zemunik, Tyler Walker, Kasey Kahne and Kyle Larson joining ALL of the regulars here in Central PA like Monteith, Dietrich, DeWease, Hodnett, Stutts, Zearfoss, Wolfe, Campbell, etc. Its a great mix of tracks and track sizes (PV/Grandview are the bullrings, Lincoln and also hearing Selinsgrove next season will fill the medium size and of course Port, Williams Grove and Hagerstown all are big tracks). Hard to get ten high quality nights of racing in ten days anywhere in the country. That is my recommendation, in fact I would recommend the Speedweek shows at the Grove even over the National Open, the racing is just as good and you don't have to sit on the lap of the person next to you while you watch it.

Last year we went to.....

Friday, USAC Sprint week at bloomington

Saturday, Kings Royal WOO

Sunday, Mansfield ( tripple crown race)

Monday, Pirates game

Tuesday, learnerville (Don Martin WOO)

Wednesday. NASCAR Trucks at Eldora.

I think that is a good time to go because you can hit some much, and get a good varitey. The year before that we hit up Kokomo. Asphalt Indy for the Volger, Lincoln Park, and also went to Twin cities in St. Louis.
