Anyone know how many cars expected for the CRA Race at Calistoga this coming weekend.  Last couple of years this once great race has been so-so at best.  Its a great facility and weekend but if there are not enough cars then I will not be attending.  Long drive and expense for 10 sprint cars 10 305's and 7 or 8 midgets.  Anyone have real numbers and not wishful or hopeful numbers?  Thanks for help.

i'm happy to report your representation of the Louie Vermeil race is WAY off base.  Just google last years results or Youtube the Main events.  It has always been a well represented 2 night show.  This years entry list is typical of the 410 sprints, but highest I've seen for midgets.  In the neighborhood of 35+ Sprint cars and 30+ midgets both nights.  It started paying 10g to win each night.  Kunz comes out with his cars because most of his drivers are from NorCal and it pays big.   Rico has won it a couple times.  In sprints last year we had Boespflug, Ballou(got hurt if you remember), Thomas, Bacon, T-Mez, Macedo, Haud, and close to thirty other 410's for a regional USAC event.  We had one of the National guys in our car for the 6 shows of Sprint Week.

A 305 has never been on the dirt at Calistoga.  Are you thinking of the 360 Wingless SPEC sprints that run with the Outlaws?  Wonderful weekend, not sure what event you are thinking about.   Calistoga has thankfully been strong again for a decade.  Come on down.

USAC really needs to look at this track and this weekend and Bring the big cars out and make this a triple crown before the 4 crown nationals. It would be standing room only and car count / drivers would be most steller race a must see .

Have shake down on friday before the dinner banquet that night cars on track from 4-7 dinner at 8  it would be amazing.

This year is going to be a great 10 year ann. good field of cars/drivers .

so stoked for Calistoga.

the louie vermille classic IS this weekend, it will be packed, like last year.  one of the best shows of the year..the gold cup and outlaws in two weeks here at the chico bullring, actually sept 15-16, worth the drive!..

Ascot was the greatest of all time..

West Capital wasn't half bad either..

Life is good...

For those of you on the fence about going to this year’s race you may just want to get off that fence and get to the track. With the way the fairgrounds management & fair board has made Mr. Hunts life hell for his promotions at our beloved track over the past 10 years of the LV Classic and other promotions I would not be the least bit surprised if he did NOT renew his contract and this is the final year of his contract. Fairgrounds management has destroyed our favorite ½ mile track in northern Calif.  If you want to keep seeing races at Calistoga you may want to call Mr. Hunt and ask him how you can help or call the fair board and tell them to get their heads out of their asses. Read some of the letters to the editor of the weekly Calistogian. The locals see the demise of their fairgrounds and have voiced their concerns only to fall on deaf ears. The local booster are so tired of dealing with the management they pulled out of handling any concessions for any activity on the fairgrounds. Now the latest I’m hearing is there is water issues for the fairgrounds which should not be an issue since the fairgrounds is supposed to be helping the city dispose of their effluent water on the golf course and the race track. My sources are attending the monthly board meetings and this is where my information is coming from so I’m confident in what I’m being told!!! This current administration is NOT racer friendly and it shows, the previous 3 managers knew the importance of the race track and supported it for over 40 yrs. Calistoga needs a new race track friendly manager!!!!!!!

Get to the track this weekend because this may be the last year of the LV Classic unless there is some drastic changes to the fairgrounds management. I have many memories at this track and would hate to see it dealt the same fate as Baylands and Ascot park.

Elbows up and hammer down this weekend and I want to wish all the driver a safe weekend.

I've read, from afar, a little bit about the issues the past few years at Stoga with the fairboard.  You think someone influential in the communtiy like David Abreu could step in and assist?  I know he ran/promoted the Dirt Classic for the Boys and Girls Club at Stoga earlier this year to what seemed like great success.  The fairboard may not care at all about the track and thereinlies the problem, but someone of David's stature in the community (and racing community) could certainly assist...again depending on how much the board actually listens and how much David wants to actually persue this endeavor.

The Abreu family has been heavily involved with the race track and Fair board in fact Mr. Abreu’s wife was a board member up until earlier this year as she left because of frustration with the current board and Manager. The Abreu family along with a few others have put a lot of their own blood, sweat and tears into the track and all its upgrades you see today. In fact I think it safe to say a great big thank you is needed to go to the Abreu family and Stadelhofer construction. If it was not for them you would not see 95-100% of the upgrades that have been done to the track in the last 5-7 yrs!!! The Abreu’s have been trying to keep this track going but you can only beat your head against a wall for so long before you give up and that’s I think one reason why Mrs. Abreu left the board but she still attends the board meetings from what ive been told. she even wrote a letter to the editor voicing her concerns about the manager to the Weekly Calistoga Paper this week.

Thanks Moonken.  I did know of the Abreu's support and work at Stoga (and their continued support of CA racing as a whole), but I did not know Mrs. Abreu was on the board.  Sounds like the Abreu's and a few others have tried their damndest to help keep the track open, running, profitable, etc. but have been met with less than stellar support from the board and Mayor's office.  What a shame.  Thanks for the info.

Go this weekend and go again when the Outlaws are in town because you won't get many more chances. As much as I hate to say it, Calistoga Speedway's days are numbered. The deal has been made on a $1,200/night Resort and Spa and guess where they're putting it.

Paydirt28, please don't do that to people.  The Four Seasons has been under construction off of Silverado Trail on the East side of Calistoga for quite some time.  Several miles from the track.

I  suggest that anyone interested in the future of Calistoga Speedway, which is about everyone on this board, should come to the races early this weekend and talk with some fair board members. Many of them are often at the races and they are not hard to find if you ask around. They are reasonable people. Ask them what's going on and tell them how much you enjoy going to the races and visiting the area.

Am I correct that Kelly Foster, the guy behind the Four Seasons is the same guy that's "consulting" with the fair board?
