BRODY ROA WINS AT SANTA MARIA – CLOSES IN ON POINT LEAD!

(Buena Park, CA, August 9, 2017) Garden Grove, California’s Brody Roa finally bagged his first USAC/CRA Sprint Car main win of the season when he bested the field last Saturday night at the Santa Maria Raceway.  The dramatic victory sends Roa into the next race of the series at Perris Auto Speedway on August 26th only four-points out of first place.

The victory was the second ever for the rising sprint car star in the USAC/CRA Series.  His first came on June 2, 2012 at Arizona’s Cocopah Speedway.  The win also kept up Roa’s string of top finishes in 2017 in the series.  Through the first nine races of the campaign, he has only finished out of top five one time.  That was at Perris in the sixth race of the year when he had to restart at the back and drove through the field for seventh.  In the other eight races, he has one win, three second place finishes, two third place outings and two times coming home fifth.

At the Santa Barbara County coastal track on Saturday, Roa qualified second fastest in the 19-car field.  He backed that up by coming from the back for a second-place finish in his 10-lap heat race.  For the main, the 26-year-old started inside the third row in the fifth spot.  By the end of the first circuit, he was second.  One lap later he had advanced to third.  At the end of the eighth lap, the handsome racer pulled into second and set his sights on the leader.

Roa was chasing down the lead car when a lapped car tangled with one of the other top runners.  That brought a yellow flag and parked Roa and his bright green #91R on the rear end of the leader for the restart.  Roa stalked the race long pace-setter for nine-laps.  He finally made his move to the outside to take the front-runner and a lapped car at the same coming off the fourth turn.  Once out front he pulled away.  He seemed destined for certain victory, but like the July 1st Santa Maria race where he led to the white flag, disaster nearly stepped in again.  Just feet before he was to take the checkers, two other cars tangled in turn four bringing out another yellow flag and another restart.

With nerves of his legion of fans and crew members on edge, Roa had all the other fast guys on his tail for the green, white, checkered restart.  This time, he left no doubt and pulled away to a seven-car length lead and the eventual win.

“Lapped cars played out pretty well this time,” the happy winner told the fans at the end of the 30-lapper.  “I do not know if it is redemption or what.  It feels good to get this one and hopefully a lot more to come.  We will go to Perris in a couple of weeks and try to do the same thing and keep this rolling. We have a great package here and a lot of great people that go into this.  It feels good.  We qualified good and ran good in our heat race, so this helps (in the championship chase).”

The most consistent driver in USAC/CRA this season, Roa is only four points out of first in the 2017 Championship standings heading into the next race at Perris.  One week after Perris, he enters a pivotal part of the schedule.  “California Sprint Week” will begin at Calistoga on September 2nd and will finish at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford on September 9th.  Six races in eight grueling nights.  It could well decide the 2017 USAC/CRA championship.

The team will have its good-looking shirts in the pits at the August 26th Perris race and throughout “California Sprint Week.”  Cost will be $20.00.  For those who cannot attend, the shirts are available by mail for $20.00 plus $7.00 shipping in the USA (foreign countries contact for shipping costs).
