BRODY ROA COMPLETES FIRST PORTION OF INDIANA SPRINT WEEK!

(Buena Park, CA, July 12, 2017) Garden Grove, California sprint car racing star Brody Roa has completed the first three race portion of the 30th Annual Indiana Sprint Week. The veteran racer is poised to contest the final four races starting on Wednesday at the Terre Haute Action Track.

Through the first three races in the toughest traditional (non-wing) sprint car series in the world, the 26-year-old has made every main event.

Indiana Sprint Week was originally slated to feature seven races in nine days. However, heavy rains postponed the series opener at Gas City 69 Speedway from Friday, July 7 to Monday, July 10. That made the series even tougher as instead of having two days off in the middle to work on cars and catch up on some rest, the teams only got one day off (Tuesday, July 11).

Below is recap of the Roa’s first three races.

Kokomo Speedway, Saturday, July 8 – With the Friday race postponed 72-hours due to rain, Indiana Sprint Week opened at one of the nation’s most popular dirt tracks, the Kokomo Speedway. A massive standing room only crowd wedged their way around the 3/8 of a mile dirt track. Like the grandstands, the pits were packed as well with 45 of the nation’s fastest sprint cars. Roa was 15th fastest of the 45 in qualifying and was in the third starting spot in his 10-lap heat. After a see-saw battle that saw him slide back to seventh at one point, Roa raced his way back to fourth in the heat to earn his ticket into the main event. Starting 15th in the main, it was going to be a long drive to the front. However, he did not get a real chance. Around the third lap, a heim joint broke on the car and he finished 22nd.

Lawrenceburg Speedway, Sunday, July 9 – Sunday night saw some more nice weather and a fine field of 41-fast USAC National Sprint Cars at the banked 3/8 of a mile Lawrenceburg Speedway. This time Roa caught everyone’s attention when he qualified sixth fastest on the wide oval with a lap of 14.093. He started fifth in his heat race and ran in sixth for the duration. That put him into the B main event. The tall racer started on the pole for the B and rim road his way around the top for a fourth-place finish. That placed him into the main event for the second night in a row. However, this time he was starting four rows closer to the front in seventh. A few laps into the race, another car in front of Roa had a problem with the cushion and it shuffled the California driver back to 15th. All it did was make Roa get his elbows up, head for the cushion and thrill the crowd with a daring rim ride in the bright green #91R. When all was said and done, he came all the way back to eighth at the checkered flag.

Gas City 69 Speedway, Monday, July 10 – On Monday the Brody Roa Performance team headed back to Gas City for the makeup of Friday’s rained out race. Mother Nature was once again playing a part in the show as severe weather was on the way. That prompted track officials to keep the show moving at a rapid pace on the quarter-mile oval. Thirty-two cars were in the pits and Roa timed in 23rd fastest. For his heat, he started on the pole, finished fourth and went to his third straight main. Starting 20th on a track that was slicker than an ice rink, Roa pulled it off the track late in the race and finished 21st.

While not happy with the 21st place finish, the team is still happy to have made all three main events.

“Brody started in the back of the main and the leaders caught him so he pulled off to not influence the finish on this tiny bull ring,” Roa’s father Brett said after the Gas City main. “The big thing is, Brody has made all three mains so far. That puts him in a small group of those who have. Sprint Week is unbelievably difficult. We show up at these track that the competitors run on a regular basis and we have to figure the track out in three laps of practice. Brody has really been up on the wheel to put the car in the show each night. We are hoping to make it four for four on Wednesday (at Terre Haute). Most importantly, we are really enjoying the experience.”

After Terre Haute on Wednesday, the 91R team will wind up sprint week with shows at Lincoln Park Speedway on Thursday, Bloomington Speedway on Friday and Tri-State Speedway on Saturday. As soon as they are done with Tri-State, they will point the team hauler west for the USAC/CRA race at Perris Auto Speedway on the 22nd.

This 91R crew still has some of its new shirts available during the remainder of Indiana Sprint Week. Fans can meet Roa and the team in the pits after each race and get the latest team shirts for $20.00.

For those who cannot attend, the shirts are available by mail for $20.00 plus $7.00 shipping in the USA (foreign countries contact for shipping costs).
