BRODY ROA SECOND AT SANTA MARIA – ON TO INDIANA SPRINT WEEK!
(Buena Park, CA, July 6, 2017) USAC/CRA Championship contender Brody Roa turned in another stellar performance and finished second in the 30-lap main event last Saturday night at the Santa Maria Raceway. This week the #91R team will be the only Southern California car when the grueling “Indiana Sprint Week” begins at Gas City 69 Speedway on Friday, July 7th.
At Santa Maria, the Garden Grove, California driver started the evening by qualifying seventh fastest in the 21-car field. He followed that up by going from his fourth-place starting spot in the first heat race to finish second and earn a start on the pole for the main event.
At the drop of the green, Roa, 26, snatched the lead and inched away from the pack. Running through the rough stuff on the low line in turn four, he had a five-car length advantage over his nearest competitor by the end of lap five and continued to build on it. He stretched the advantage to nearly a half straight when the first yellow wiped away the lead on lap 13.
Once the green came back on, the competition kept Roa within striking distance, but he maintained the top spot. However, just before the white flag he was forced to relinquish the lead when he was trapped by lapped cars. He ended up in a frustrating second spot at the checkers.
Even though it was the sixth top-five finish in seven USAC/CRA races, the veteran racer still expressed his disappointment after the race.
“We can run for that championship, but we have to win races” Roa said. “We have to win races. Not lead 28 or 29 laps and get passed with one to go, but circumstances happen. It hurts to be running that good and not win. We will take this and move on to Indiana Sprint Week. We are making good decisions on race car set up and hopefully we can have a good showing back there. It will roll around. We are optimistic and will keep on trucking.”
The team is poised to attack “Indiana Sprint Week,” which is comprised of seven races in just nine days. It is a grind that will begin at Gas City 69 Speedway on Friday, Kokomo Speedway on Saturday and Lawrenceburg Speedway on Sunday. After a couple of days off next Monday and Tuesday, it will be four straight nights beginning with the Terre Haute Action Track on Wednesday, Lincoln Park Speedway on Thursday, Bloomington Speedway on Friday and Tri City Speedway on Saturday before returning home to California. After returning home, the crew will have little time to rest as they are back in action in the USAC/CRA Series the following Saturday, July 22nd.
This 91R crew will have its new shirt available in all sizes at the tracks during Indiana Sprint Week. Fans can meet Roa and the team in the pits after each race and get the latest team shirts for $20.00. For those who cannot attend, the shirts are available by mail for $20.00 plus $7.00 shipping in the USA (foreign countries contact for shipping costs).
