Just read that Hendrick MS announced that Dale Jr. will retire at the end of this season.

Interesting.

I was never a big fan of his, but it has been good to see the mumbling, morose, socially awkward Junior replaced with a more jovial and genial guy over the past five-ish years. I hope he has fun and enjoys his retirement.

I thought he retired 10, 15 years ago...

since he is worth 200-300 million dollars I doubt if he cares what you think.  Would you rather have some driver full of BS up to his eye brows and could talk for a 1/2 hr with out saying anything?

Since you asked, no, I dont think he cares what I think. Do you think I am that arrogant? I just like that he finally became comfortable in his own skin and embraced his role as NASCAR's most popular driver. He's opened up a bunch since he struggled early on with Hendrick.

He's a fun read on Twitter and he's done some more stuff on TV too. Those Nationwide spots made me chuckle the first time I saw them.  "They call me Water Cooler Dale."

I really do hope he has fun in retirement.... I wasn't being a wiseass.

Retiring from NASCAR is truly (to use Jr's phrase) like turning chicken shit into chicken salad.  A NASCAR puppet only truly wins when he takes his dirty money and runs.

Good guy.  Average race car driver.  Retarded fans.  He's gotta be embarrassed by those dipshits.

Wow--I don't know who to comment on first:

First off, Maddog, that was funny shit and the same thing I was thinking.  I was gonna reply to yours.

Then, I read "Put him in the BWW #82" and I was laughing even harder.

Finally--Strange Wings--you made me piss my pants.

Honestly though, isn't everyone gonna miss hearing DW refer to Jr. as "Junebug"?  WTF?  Does that mean every single jr. in the country is nicknamed Junebug?  Dale Jr. most popular driver?  He wouldn't have been at year's end anyways.  Mr. Larson is actually putting some excitement into this season.  I thought yesterday's race was absolutely fantastic and mostly because of him and the line he ran which no one else could figure out. No speeding penatly and he wins going away.  He would've cleaned Jimmy's clock with 4 tires.

Well said Utah. I never liked him when I was a kid simply for the fact that he was highly overrated. But he handled everything really well and embraced who he was, and what he was, in terms of a racer. I gained alot of respect for him the last 2-3 years. nascar is in real trouble now.

I'm really happy for him. He seems really happy and in a great place. I know it's hard to feel bad for someone living that life and making all that money but I've always felt bad for him. He can't win in the eyes of some people no matter what he does being the son of Dale Sr. His resume would be an easy HOF resume for anyone else but no matter what he does people will say he's a loser compared to his dad. I guess that's the way it goes for sons of the alltime greats in any sport.

Hmmmm. It was either Harvick or K Busch that said he was the best natural talent in NASCAR since Jeff Gordon. I guess they're wrong. And you must be right. Good post buddy.

Weren't there plenty of great drivers before Kinser and anyone else who rose up to become the best in their respective era in any sport? By your idiot logic, Clayton Kershaw is a shitty pitcher because he didn't get to test his curveball out against Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. So no matter what Larson does, he'll never be good enough to be great because he didn't race against Richard Petty, David Pearson and Dale Earnhardt SR? I wish someone could let you borrow a functioning brain so you could see just how stupid that is. As far as Larson's accomplishments in Sprint car racing, are you kidding me? He won in how many different cars at how many different tracks against everyone who's anyone and then moved on to NASCAR where he's recorded wins in all 3 of their top series not to mention, has been the fastest this year with a team that has historically been mediocre and he's done all of this before his 25th birthday while handling the pressure of being anointed the next big thing by virtually everyone in American motorsports. What the hell more do you want him to do? The only thing I can figure, is you're one of the few mouth breathers who still hang on to the fact that he hasn't won a sprint car race in Central PA.

As a Dale Sr. fan, Jr. never gave me the excitement I had when watching Sr. Obviously not fair of me to compare but thats just how it is. As time has progressed, Jr has made me more of a fan. Not because of his talent but because he just seems like a decent guy that doesn't pretend to be something he's not. I really don't think he cares that he never won a cup championship or racked up more wins along the way. He was just out doing what he loved, racing. As race fans, I'm not sure how we can't respect that.

Wow.  Please give me the list of the drivers more talented than Kyle and we can start there.  If your list is more than 2 or 3 long, you are going to be in for a verbal beating on this message board.  You might even be in for a verbal beating if you list the wrong 2 or 3.

Good luck
