EXTRA MONEY INCLUDING $2,000.00 SPRINT CAR TROPHY DASH AT PERRIS SATURDAY!

(Perris, CA, August 23, 2016) When the USAC/CRA Amsoil Sprint Cars return to Perris Auto Speedway this Saturday night, August 27th, for the annual “California Racer’s Hall of Fame Night,” they will have a lot of extra reasons to run hard all evening long.  As this piece went to press, they had exactly $6,200.00 in extra reasons to run hard for.  Joining USAC/CRA on the all open wheel program will be the PAS Senior and Young Gun Sprints.  The beautiful vintage cars of the Western Racing Association will also be on hand.  Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM and the first race will be at 7:00.

The extra money will start flying in qualifying.  Every year since the passing of Billy Wilkerson, his wife Anne has put up $500.00 to honor the two-time CRA champion and National Sprint Car Hall of Famer.  The award is called the “Billy Wilkerson Fast Time Award,” and it will go to the fastest qualifier on Saturday night.  In addition, the fast qualifier will also get another $100.00 from the Woodland Auto Display in Paso Robles, California netting the quick timer $600.00.

The “Junior Kurtz Trophy Dash” will honor the longtime Silver Crown car owner and hardcore race supporter who passed away in March of this year.  It will carry a purse of $2,000.00 and will be run speedway motorcycle style.  The four fastest qualifiers who accept the challenge to compete in the dash will contest four separate, three-lap races.  Each driver will start off each starting position one-time.  The winner of each segment will collect three-points, second-place will get two, third spot will pick up a single point and last will get zero.  At the end of the fourth segment, the points will be added up and the driver with the highest total will collect the lion’s share of the $2,000.00.  In case of a tie for first, there will be a special runoff between the tied drivers.

Moving onto the main event, longtime PAS infield announcer Chris Holt has thus far collected $3,700.00 in lap money.  The leader of each lap will collect a minimum of $100.00.  If there is more than $100.00 donated on certain laps, the leader will pocket that as well.  In addition, there will be a “Hard Luck Award” and Professional Racers Emporium will be donating fuel certificates to four selected teams.

The PAS Senior Sprint Car class will also have something extra to race for on Saturday.  Normally a trophy only class for drivers 45-years-of-age and older, 16-year old sprint car videographer Sean Conrad has raised a $700.00 payout for them on Saturday.

“All of the extra money is on top of the regular purse,” promoter Don Kazarian said.  “It is going to make it even more exciting all night as these guys are going to drive hard from their first lap of qualifying until the final lap of the main event trying to get a piece of the extra money.  Thank you for everyone who donated and thank you to Chris Holt and Sean Conrad for the hard work.  The drivers and the fans really appreciate it.”

The racing in the USAC/CRA Series has been fabulous thus far in 2016.  Saturday will be the ninth race of the year.  The first eight races have produced eight different winners!  Not among those eight winners are the two winningest drivers in series history, Damion Gardner of Concord and Mike Spencer of Temecula.  If that is not enough, the points battle is as tight as it has ever been this time of the year.  Visalia’s Richard Vander Weerd, who was born in Upland and who grew up in Chino, holds a slender six-point lead over Anaheim’s Jake Swanson and a seven-point advantage over Gardner.  First through sixth is only separated by 62-points.

Adult tickets are $25.00.  Seniors 65 and older get in for $20.00.  Active military members with proper id, teens 13-18 with their school id and kids 6-12 get in for just $5.00.  Children 5 and under are admitted free.  The event will not sell out and there will be plenty of tickets available for everyone at the ticket window on Saturday.

For patrons who wish to purchase tickets in advance, they can do so 24-hours a day by clicking on the following link http://bit.ly/2bzRg2x or by calling 1-800-595-4849.

Camping is available for $25.00 per night for all PAS events.  The campground opens at noon the day before each event.  Tailgating in the spectator parking lot will begin at 1:00 PM.
